Gelina Dames,

Gelina Dames is the new marketing and communications associate at Shelterforce. She previously served as a communications and special projects coordinator at the University of Delaware. Dames obtained a bachelor’s degree in international relations from the University of Delaware in May 2022, and is currently a Metropolitan Urban League James H. Gilliam Sr. Fellow and a Young Professional at the Council on Foreign Relations.


Elyse Barbell, Urban Resource Institute (URI)

Elyse Barbell is the new vice president of people & culture at Urban Resource Institute (URI), a leading service provider dedicated to empowering domestic violence survivors and homeless families. Prior to this role, Barbell spent seven years developing recruitment and retention strategies for Women in Need as the organization’s vice president of human capital.

My landlord let me sign up for rental relief and the day they needed his information on sending him a check (he thought I was complaining about the lawn guys, and I wasn’t) so he got mad and said he’s not going to take the money anymore, so I had to come up with 3 months rent in 3 days (3 day pay or quit) and I couldn’t but I was able to sell my car by the court date and paid it but I still have the eviction filing and can’t find a home for me and my two kids.
