California Ups Ante on Climate Disclosures

Welcome to this week's news brief. Companies doing business in California will be required to disclose Scopes 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas emissions along with other climate-related information under two new bills that passed the Golden State’s legislature last week. Governor Gavin Newsom has pledged to sign them into law. Sources told Agenda that the new laws are a “game changer” and will apply to thousands of companies, even those headquartered outside California. Read more here.

DEI Plans Under Scrutiny

Legal and diversity experts are urging boards to review their companies’ diversity, equity and inclusion plans in light of the recent Supreme Court ruling that struck down U.S. colleges’ use of race-based admissions criteria. In a recent survey of Agenda readers, 25.5% of respondents said their boards have done a review already and another 45.1% said they planned to do so at an upcoming board meeting. Read more here.
