This Week in Rescuing Children

How amazing that we got such good news this week. Twelve children and their coach were all rescued from a flooded cave in Thailand. I was riveted to the coverage and was anxious for a happy ending. Miracles can happen.  Of course, the fact that one person lost his life as a hero saddened everyone, but the innocent children were safe.

Which makes the plight of the #trumparation (Trump separation) children so incredibly jarring. Stealing kids from their parents is cruel, even if the adults entered America illegally. As a parent, I watched the evil undertakings with horror and dismay at the cold-hearted nature of the purposeful separation.

Thank goodness justice prevailed and the courts stepped in to ensure that some of the blameless victims will be reunited with their parents. Whatever your political persuasion, I’m certain that we can all agree that the wrong- headed policy of hurting minors is not what the US should stand for as the bastion of freedom.

So, when you put your little ones to bed tonight, be grateful that they’re with you in a place where your family’s dreams can be pursued safely and on your terms.  After all, a child, is a child, is a child.
