Open Kitchen: Brainfood Jobs Job Board
Most of you will have seen me talking in recent weeks about how hot the market is for recruiters right now. We've all seen direct evidence of this in the sheer volume of requests to feature recruiter jobs in this newsletter - 50, 100 new roles every week. Happy times for recruiters but a problem for the community because I have become the bottleneck.
This has been compounded by my failed attempts to 'get out of the way' by centralising requests to public comments - a lot of you are doing this (thanks!) but most are still directly message me asking for help ??
I'm not annoyed because I don't mind (really Alexey!!) but it is a problem for the community because it means my inbox management is a mess and I end up missing a great deal of these requests. Believe it or not, the jobs you see in 'Who's Hiring' represent only a percentage of those which should be in there if I was able to deliver on the requests more effectively.
Additional problems have become obvious too - no single place to post jobs in your own time, no easy way to find the jobs list if you miss the newsletter, no easy way to retrieve jobs you were interested in but were not able to action upon discovery.
So, we're changing it ??
1. Introducing Brainfood Jobs
I applied for an account with Pallet, a job board software provider which looks to have a cool model, great interface and community / curated ethic. Thanks to Julia Rutzen for the acceptance of the request, demo, hand holding and responsiveness to dumb questions to which I should've known the answers to. Great reminder to me that rectec providers still (and always will) need to 'white glove it' with new customers regardless of how self serve the product is. Customers are not dumb but are reluctant (even hostile) to spending any cognitive effort on learning new stuff.
2. How to Post Jobs
Straight forward - hit the Brainfood Jobs link and 'post job'. You may need to set up a Pallet account if you haven't already or use social sign in (google, facebook, linkedin etc).
Thereafter standard job posting flow, though with some integrations to ATS's like Greenhouse, Lever and I think Workable which pre-populates a lot of the fields. The most fiddly part is if your company is not listed in the db - you're going to need to manually create it or link it with your Crunchbase profile. Not a big deal but an additional step that smaller companies might need to do.
3. Free to Post, Pay to Boost
Posting jobs will always be free, and I'll be pointing candidates to Brainfood Jobs job board every week in this newsletter, rather than listing the jobs individually. If you want jobs boosted, then you have two options - Listed which means your job will also be individually listed into both This Week, In Recruiting and Recruiting Brainfood newsletters, in additional to being featured top-of-the-feed in Brainfood Jobs for 30 days. I would recommend this option for jobs that are really quite important hires for your business.
Or, if you want mega promo, go big for Promoted option: everything in Listed as well as the job being featured as 'Job of the Week' in both newsletters also, as well as being promoted on Brainfood Live. It will basically have it's own segment in each newsletter so visibility will be high, and I'm toying with the idea of recording a video with me interviewing the hiring manager and them why they need this hire and why should someone really want to do it. Choose this if the job really is a business critical hire or a new function you want to promote.
4. What Jobs Can Be Posted?
Human curation is key to maintaining reasonable signal to noise, especially on services which are going to be free. So there is a review and curation process on every free job - they will be manually reviewed and accepted / rejected by me. I am generally permissive on this because there is a good job for every candidate, but there are some guidelines which are pretty much hard rules - check out the above table, if in doubt.
5. Subscribe As A Job Candidate
No one expects to experience the horrendous economic crash of 2020 again so soon, but we should not forget those moments when so many of us in the industry were suddenly out of work, highly stressed and scrambling around. One of the best features of Pallet is the ability to configure your interests on Brainfood Jobs and subscribe to be notified when a new job is posted which matches those interests. Combined with the human curation element, this should mean that quality of jobs should be high.
6. What To Do Next?
Well if you are an employer and need to hire recruiters, post a job. There are tons of services out there but in this community I think we have both demand and supply in the same place - we just needed the right interface to bring them together. I think maybe that could be Brainfood Jobs.

What's In The News?
Google and Facebook both institute vaccine mandates for staff returning to the office this week. The requirement (and legal obligation?) to provide safe office environments is a non-trivial challenge for employers who continue to provide office facilities.
A week of contrasting policies by Big Tech in the US, LinkedIn announce the 'Hybrid Max' option, with office facilities available but no expectation for employees to use them - and interestingly, up to individual managers to negotiate mode of work with their respective teams. This may end up as 'Functional Split'
Culture Amp raise $100 million Series F, with a valuation of $1.5 billion
Few companies are better positioned for this moment than Culture Amp, whose employee engagement platform and - perhaps more importantly - employee engagement ethos - has customers lining up for their support as the relationship between companies and workers gets remade. Techcrunch has the report here
Surprised and delighted to see these two companies come together this past week. Finally, Amazon published its Q2 2021 financial results, which revealed a line item which no one knew about - a record $887 million fine by the EU for data privacy violations, surely the largest levied under GDPR.
You got to wonder whether Amazon's army of lawyers might have thought they were compliant - but weren't.

Who's Moving?
Glenn Gutmacher joins Huron Consulting Group as Director of Talent Sourcing, after nearly 6 years with State Street building the centralised sourcing function there. Anyone who knows Glenn knows Huron have got themselves a great hire!
