Open Kitchen: I'm A Twitter Bull (@HungLee ?? follow if u tweet)

I've been on Twitter since 2011 and apparently I've sent over 53,000 tweets in that time. That is approximately 13.2 tweets per day - really quite a lot for a platform where I'm not really thinking about 'return on investment'.

No alt text provided for this image

Mainly been using it for 'fun' rather than work, as I do have other interests (mainly dinosaurs) outside of recruitment. However, 3 recent developments by Twitter have really got me thinking about how I might be able to use the platform to better help the community. Some thoughts about these....

1. Twitter Spaces

No alt text provided for this image

You remember Clubhouse? It was, for a moment, the hottest app on the planet, securing the presence of people such as Elon Musk, Oprah Winfrey and even Mark Zuckerberg, whilst reaching $1 billion valuation as recently as January 2021. It has since entirely lost it's cool, but it did show us all something - there was a market for audio only interactions, especially ones where random callers can come on and get on air without being prior organisation or scheduling. Hence when Twitter Spaces launched in May earlier this year, I thought that this could be a good channel for members of the community to ...basically have a call in radio show.

For the OG's this was the original vision for Brainfood Live but when we started it was too early for everyone to get comfortable with video and no one would actually be prepared to come on screen, forcing us to adapt the show to be a more classic topic orientated talk show ??

What do you think - worth doing a call in show to talk Recruiting Brainfood?

2. Twitter Communities

No alt text provided for this image

Twitter Communities has only recently been released in Beta - there is a wait list, I've applied. At first this looks like you can sent tweets to a private community of folks who have been invited, rather than the current option of send to everyone or send to one (via DM). The middle ground of 'communicate with many but not everybody' is the essence of what community communication is. Not sure what a Brainfood Community on Twitter is going to look like or be for, but a good chance to experiment and figure it out as a group. We already have a thriving community on FB, but I am concerned about where FB is going in terms of product development, where Zuckerberg's obsession with the 'metaverse' seems to leaving core product development behind, so it seems sensible to have an alternative channel where the community can breathe.

What do you think - would you do community on private group Twitter? And value would it bring?

3. Twitter + Revue Newsletter

No alt text provided for this image

Finally, the latest round of feature roll outs sees a deeper integration between Twitter and Revue - the newsletter software Twitter acquired earlier this year. Revue has been the software I use to create the Recruiting Brainfood newsletter, so I've been keeping a close eye on this acquisition. This release enables user to create a revue newsletter, which other users can subscribe to via the twitter interface. Seems to be like a no brainer for anyone out there currently thinking about doing a newsletter to now do it on Twitter (rather than Facebook's Bulletin) or Substack; anyone with an already decent following should get a head start on subscriber growth.

Given all of this, it is fair to say that I'm a Twitter bull. The platform has returned to relevance for me in a big way and I suspect that it will become a great place for future community interactions to take place. This doesn't mean I'm leaving LinkedIn of course (I'm a recruiter after all) but likely does mean there will be more stuff happening on Twitter also. If you're interested in exploring with me, find me @HungLee.

Anyways, out of the kitchen, into the lounge ??
