Week Recap

This week was a sensitive one for us as a nation. It was important that our Democracy; a system of government in which state power is vested in the people or the general population of a state, gave the people a chance to speak while the government listened and acted accordingly. Our Democracy is not perfect, it is a work in progress and has come a long way since independence. At NIGERIAN COMMUNICATIONS SATELLITE LIMITED (NIGCOMSAT) , it was key that services to clients remained reliable and uninterrupted, during this time.

Ambassador Amb. Olushola Olaniyan , President of Wikimedia Nigeria , visited NIGERIAN COMMUNICATIONS SATELLITE LIMITED (NIGCOMSAT) . In this digital age access to accurate data are crucial. It is important that citizens have factual and accurate data in places in the web they are accustomed to seeking them like wikipedia.

Our meeting was a cordial courtesy visit during which we explored potential collaborations for hosting the inaugural Wikimedia Conference Nigeria in Abuja from September 12th to 14th, 2024.

Wikimedia is the organization that oversees Wikipedia and other related projects. Over 100 Wikimedians from Nigeria and abroad will gather at the conference to discuss how Wikipedia and its sister projects can enhance digital knowledge and connectivity across Nigeria. I look forward to sharing more details about this exciting venture soon.

NIGCOMSAT is proud to be currently delivering a comprehensive training program to officers within the Nigerian Air Force's Satellite Technology Directorate. Led by the esteemed Dr. Muhammad Alkali, our team of highly skilled experts is actively transferring their knowledge and expertise to NAF personnel. This initial phase lays the foundation for a successful program, ensuring a deep understanding of the relevant technologies.

The program is designed in two phases. The first phase, currently underway, focuses on intensive knowledge transfer. The second phase, scheduled to commence next week, will provide practical experience through on-the-job training (OJT).

This collaborative training initiative underscores NIGCOMSAT's ongoing commitment to fostering a strong synergy between our organization and the Nigerian Armed Forces. It aligns perfectly with our vision of achieving effective interagency collaboration.

I recently led a high-level NIGCOMSAT delegation in a productive meeting with His Excellency, Governor Agbu Kefas , at the Taraba State Government Lodge in Abuja. NIGCOMSAT already serves Federal Medical center Jalingo and TV Taraba with our services.

Our discussions centered on further unlocking the transformative potential of satellite technology for Taraba State. We share a common vision of a Taraba State where technology is a catalyst for progress. By harnessing NIGCOMSAT's satellite capabilities, we can revolutionize sectors like education, healthcare, agriculture, and security. Imagine a Taraba State with robust broadband connectivity, empowering its citizens and driving economic growth especially in rural and underserved areas.

NIGCOMSAT is excited to deepen our partnership with Taraba State on this journey of digital transformation. Together, we can build a future where technology serves as a bridge to prosperity for the people of Taraba.

NIGCOMSAT has recently been showcasing the use cases of satellite technology in Smart Agriculture and Precision Farming. It was my honour to have discussed with? Dr. Oluwakemi Dare-Idowu who is the Director of Operations at Agricome Project Solutions Limited on this important matter.

Agricome is a visionary organization dedicated to transforming Africa's agricultural landscape. Their comprehensive approach empowers rural communities, promotes sustainable farming practices, and showcases the continent's agricultural abundance on the global stage.

Our meeting centered on exploring how NIGCOMSAT's Nigerian Satellite Communications system alongside Remote Sensing Service can solve problems like irrigation, Crop monitoring in agriculture in Nigeria. By combining Agricome's deep agricultural knowledge with our cutting-edge satellite technology, we can address the pressing issue of food insecurity and build a more resilient food system.

NIGCOMSAT is thrilled to announce a potential partnership with the Assemblies of God International! Their team recently visited us to explore the possibilities of migrating their television services to our Direct-to-Home (DTH) platform.

We were impressed by the enthusiasm and interest shown by the Assemblies of God delegation. Their visit is a testament to the growing recognition of NIGCOMSAT as a leading provider of satellite services.

NIGCOMSAT with fellow agency head of National Health Insurance Authority NHIA were guest of Ibrahim Adeyanju MD of Galaxy Backbone . We discussed how to further ensure a robust and effective e-NHIA solution is delivered to NHIA. It was also a good time to emphasize our commitment with that of our integration partners Content Oasis, to a reliable solution that meets the end user expectation. We concluded the meeting with a visit to the impressive Galaxy Backbone Data Center were the collocation service for the service is. The tour involved our esteemed partners from KPMG Nigeria , DG NHIA Kelechi Ohiri and Director, Content Oasis, Diseye Isionu.

Dr Odiong Akpan has become a familiar and friendly face around our NIGCOMSAT Accelerator Programme! After last week's super helpful workshop on designing operational workflows, project management, and risk management, he was back at it again this week, coaching our startups on how to nail their pitches as we gradually approach the final Demo-day to round off the 6 month long accelerator Programme. It's amazing how dedicated he is to helping these young Founders grow. We're already on week 22 and the progress these startups have made is truly inspiring!

As part of its drive to build a network of accredited installers across Nigeria?and to ensure consistent quality in service delivery, NIGCOMSAT is organizing a one-day hands-on KA-band VSAT installation training for our Resellers and Channel partners.
