This week in process excellence

The burgeoning growth and evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) in the post-generative AI era has sparked highly important debates around AI ethics, safety and security. Concerns over how and why AI is used and built are well-warranted as increasingly sophisticated AI technology continues to shape the business landscape. AI is, unsurprisingly, one of the biggest disruptors in the areas of process and operational excellence, business transformation and organizational innovation.??

This week, 16 of the world’s biggest technology companies agreed to new, voluntary international AI standards at the AI Safety Summit, hosted jointly by the UK and South Korea. These standards aim to foster transparency, accountability and research on the risks of AI development, including setting thresholds for when the risks of AI become too high. Leading AI developers will publish safety frameworks on how they will measure the risks of their frontier AI models. The companies include OpenAI , 亚马逊 , 谷歌 , Meta , 微软 and IBM .?

A number of countries also cemented a commitment to collaborate on AI safety testing and evaluation guidelines, with 27 nations and the EU establishing the goals of AI governance as safety, innovation and inclusion. The move marks?an important first step as part of a wider push to develop global standards to address specific AI risks.???

Amid this backdrop, 普华永道 published the AI Jobs Barometer, a deep dive into how AI is transforming the world of work, making people and businesses more productive while changing what it takes for workers to succeed. It found that sectors more exposed to AI are experiencing almost five-fold greater labor productivity growth, while jobs that require AI skills carry up to a 25 percent wage premium in some markets.?

The research also discovered a higher skills change (25 percent) in AI-exposed occupations, with knowledge work sectors (financial services, professional services and information and communication) seeing the most rapid growth in the share of roles requiring AI skills.?

AI is defining how businesses and countries operate, with the potential to create both unprecedented advantages and risks. Advancing AI will shape the future of business processes in a way not seen before with previous technologies, making the complexity of applying AI in the best, safest way possible one of most important topics there has ever been for process excellence leaders.?
