Craig DeLong and Austin Walton claim U.S. Sprint Enduro and NGPC series podiums

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing riders were out in force in the closing rounds of this year's AMA U.S. Sprint Enduro Series and National Grand Prix Championship (NGPC) this weekend, headlined by a podium result from Craig DeLong to complete the 2024 Sprint Enduro season. A top-five score in the NGPC final round also placed Austin Walton P3 in the standings.

U.S. Sprint Enduro Series – Round 8

On his way to finishing third position overall in the 2024 U.S. Sprint Enduro Series, Craig DeLong was once again consistent in Round 8 at Rogers Farm in Ninety Six, South Carolina.

The Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing rider positioned himself third at the conclusion of Saturday and then continued to gain speed on Sunday in sealing P3 on the podium for the weekend.

Equipped with the Husqvarna FX 350, DeLong was a constant podium threat throughout the U.S. Sprint Enduro Series in 2024, taking home third place in the title race.

"I had a couple of good times, but have got to find that edge more, hang it out, and see what we can do to chase these guys down in front," DeLong recalled. "It's something to work on, so we'll enjoy the winter and come back next year!"

In addition, although she didn't compete in the final round, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing teammate Korie Steede was credited second position in the Pro Women championship following a strong campaign throughout the year on her Husqvarna FX 250.

National Grand Prix Championship – Round 9

A fifth-place finish in the National Grand Prix Championship (NGPC) at Lake Havasu was enough for Austin Walton to claim third position in the Pro Class standings, following what has been a solid season for the Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing rider.

Walton was buried in seventh at the end of the opening lap following a bad start, but didn't give up on his way into the top-five in Arizona's ninth round of the 2024 season. He's featured toward the front of the pack all year on his Husqvarna FX 450, picking up three podiums over the course of the series.

"It was a very hard track to pass on this weekend, so that added to the challenges," Walton commented. "I got a horrible start, which did not help, and I knew then that I needed to charge early on. I was able to make a couple of passes and then kept consistent. It was one of those days where I struggled to get into the groove that I needed to get into, but we did our best this weekend and gave it our all."

In continuing his return from injury, Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing teammate Dalton Shirey gained more important race mileage in Lake Havasu for an eighth-place result in the Pro Class. Despite missing the mid-portion of the season, Shirey salvaged 10th position overall.

"I'm still rebuilding my fitness at the moment after our setbacks from this year and I felt okay today," said Shirey. "It was an improvement on Blythe and this weekend I felt like I could stay with the group, so my training is coming around, but it takes time."

Colton Haaker and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing finish runner-up at Redmond

A hard-fought?runner-up result?overall has elevated Colton Haaker to?second place?in the 2024 AMA EnduroCross Series title race, picking up another?moto win at Redmond's fifth round of the season.

Haaker made it four-straight podiums onboard his Rockstar Energy Husqvarna FX 350 in Oregon, going 1-2-2 for P2 and remaining in title contention with a single round remaining.

The Hot Lap saw Haaker comfortably quickest and he then established his early dominance by winning the opening moto of the evening. He managed runner-up results in the final two races of the night, now 24 points outside of the points lead entering the finale.

"Redmond was good for me," Haaker said. "In the final race it was really dependant on the start – there wasn't much else that I could do. I tried to go outside of the main lines, but they were slower than the best line. The best I could do was to be there and look to capitalize on a mistake, but Trystan didn't make one in the end."

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing teammate Ryder LeBlond was also competitive within the tight confines of the the First Interstate Bank Center, going 4-7-5 for fifth position overall. As a result, he sits P6 in the standings following Round 5.

"It was a more consistent night, but I was just uncomfortable throughout the day," LeBlond reflected. "I ended up fifth for the night, so not where I thought I would be, but we've got one more round to hopefully finish the season strong!"

GUS RIORDAN AND BRANDY RICHARDS CLINCH U.S. SPRINT ENDURO CLASS TITLES

Two more AMA U.S. Sprint Enduro Series titles were captured by FMF KTM Factory Racing Team Landers riders this weekend at the eighth and final round, as Gus Riordan and Brandy Richards joined FMF KTM Factory Racing's Johnny Girroir in delivering number one plates for 2024.

U.S. SPRINT ENDURO SERIES – ROUND 8 FMF KTM Factory Racing Team Landers clinched a pair of championships in the 2024 U.S. Sprint Enduro Series finale, where Gus Riordan (Pro 2) and Brandy Richards (Pro Women) were crowned in their respective classes. FMF KTM Factory Racing's Johnny Girroir also ended his year on the top step of the podium in Pro 1 to make it a perfect season. Riordan successfully defended his Pro 2 title with a conservative third-place result on both days in the final round of the season, which was enough to clinch the title comfortably. With five round wins to his credit, it was a dominant performance from the Australian on his KTM 250 XC-F. Gus Riordan: "I was really focused on the championship this weekend and was happy to wrap it up, a second Pro 2 title in a row for me. That was the main goal, so I'm really excited to get it done." FMF KTM Factory Racing Team Landers teammate Richards was once again the class of the Pro Women field in the final round to seal the championship with a perfect season to her credit, also onboard the KTM 250 XC-F. Brandy Richards: "It was a good weekend! The dirt was perfect and everything flowed really well. I'm stoked to come out with a couple of wins on each day and to bring home the championship in the end. This was one of my favorite rounds of the season!" After clinching back-to-back titles with a round to spare last time out, FMF KTM Factory Racing Team rider Girroir continued his winning ways in Round 8 at Rogers Farm in Ninety Six, South Carolina. Girroir set the pace on Day 1 and then backed that up on the second day with another commanding effort, also managing to make it a perfect season in the U.S. Sprint Enduro Series. Riding the KTM 350 XC-F, Girroir's advantage in the final standings sits at 148 points. Johnny Girroir: "The rain came and made it a little slick in the last three tests, but it was a good weekend. It was good, close racing and it's been fun all year, so I can't wait until next season! It's definitely not been easy to win these, so it's a good feeling to finish the season on top." NATIONAL GRAND PRIX CHAMPIONSHIP – ROUND 9 With 2024 champion Dante Oliveira absent this weekend, the focus was firmly placed upon FMF KTM Factory Racing teammate Mateo Oliveira at the National Grand Prix Championship (NGPC) final round in Lake Havasu, Arizona. A holeshot put the KTM 450 XC-F rider in control early and he managed to lead the opening lap, until a number of mistakes bumped him back down the order for an eventual sixth-place result in the Pro Class. It was another day filled with promise for the younger Oliveira brother, who completed the NGPC series ranked fourth position overall. FMF KTM Factory Racing's defending champion Dante Oliveira had already clinched this year's title in the previous round. Mateo Oliveira: "I was able to rip the holeshot and led the first lap. I tucked the front coming into Lap 2 and picked myself up in fourth, but it was pretty hard to pass this weekend –?I ended up going down again later and that was it for today in terms of fighting for the podium. I really liked the track this weekend and had a good time out there." Pro Class Results 1. Giacomo Redondi, GASGAS 2. Dare Demartile, Beta 3. Ruy Barbosa, Honda 5. Austin Walton, Husqvarna 6. FMF KTM FACTORY RACING'S TRYSTAN HART CHARGES TO REDMOND ENDUROCROSS VICTORY

Defending AMA EnduroCross Champion Trystan Hart captured his third overall victory of the year in Redmond, Oregon, on Saturday night, the FMF KTM Factory Racing rider extending his advantage with a single round remaining in the 2024 season.

Hart qualified in second position for Round 5 and then backed that result up with P2 in the opening EX Pro race of the night program, equipped with the KTM 350 XC-F. The Canadian then went on to take well-earned victories in the remaining two races and seal the overall, continuing his perfect podium run to date in his EnduroCross title defense. After winning the opening two rounds, Hart claimed a pair of runner-up results in Idaho last time out, before returning to the top step of the podium this weekend at the First Interstate Bank Center. As a result, Hart –?also the reigning AMA U.S. Hard Enduro Champion – will carry a 24-point advantage into next weekend's title-deciding final round in Everett, Washington.

Trystan Hart: "I was really nervous coming into tonight, but I didn't need to be. You start thinking about the points, but you've got to shut that out, and it can be tough in these final stages of the series. To win when you don't really need to, it's pretty cool to do that. Colton [Haaker] had the pressure on me all night, so to hold him off in that final race as a five-time champ is probably one of the best wins I've had. One to go!"

EX Pro Class Results – Round 5 1. Trystan Hart, FMF KTM Factory Racing 2. Colton Haaker, Husqvarna 3. Cody Webb, Sherco 5. Ryder LeBlond, Husqvarna

Exclusive Styling

Between 1914-1918, Indian Motorcycle Company founder George Hendee had expanded Indian Motorcycle’s production facilities in Springfield, creating the most modern motorcycle manufacturing facility in the world. Skilled craftsmen hand assembled each bike with painstaking attention to detail. In addition to the famous Indian Motorcycle Red paint which debuted in 1904, Indian Motorcycle Springfield Blue was the other iconic brand color of this era.

Honoring that past, the new Roadmaster Elite wears a tri-tone signature paint scheme, with premium candy finishes throughout. Indian Motorcycle Springfield Blue Candy, Black Candy, and Black Candy fade over a Silver base coat are complemented by Champion Gold outlined Headdress tank logos. The striking paint package is completed with signature Elite graphics and hand-painted gold pinstripes. Premium chrome-plated finishes glisten front to back and elevate classic craftsmanship to the highest level. To top off the custom touches, each Roadmaster Elite features serialized and individually numbered Elite badging, further signifying the bike’s exclusivity.

Rider-Centric Technology

Matching the Roadmaster Elite’s premium styling is high-end, rider-centric technology. Standard on Roadmaster Elite is Indian Motorcycle’s PowerBand Audio with Bass Boost. Twelve speakers located in the front fairing, saddlebags, and tour trunk deliver even more bass than the Roadmaster’s stock sound system. Each speaker’s UnderGlow lighting delivers stand-out, custom-inspired styling. To operate the PowerBand Audio system, riders will enjoy a 7-inch Touchscreen Display by RIDE COMMAND. Through this infotainment system, riders have Bluetooth? connectivity, access to GPS navigation, ride stats, and RIDE COMMAND+, including Bike Locator, Bike Health, Apple CarPlay? and more.

Powering the Roadmaster Elite is Indian Motorcycle’s air-cooled, V-twin Thunderstroke 116 engine – delivering 126 ft-lbs of torque with plenty of passing power in every gear. Three Ride Modes (Tour, Standard and Sport) allow riders to personalize their ride by adjusting the throttle response to suit their preference.

Improving nighttime visibility is the Indian Motorcycle Adaptive LED Headlight. The Adaptive LED Headlight provides even more illumination than stock headlights, as patented, cutting-edge technology optimizes the rider’s visibility by monitoring the bike’s lean angle to optimize illumination of the road ahead.

Luxury Comfort

Whether a day ride or a weekend getaway crushing long highway miles, Indian Motorcycle designed the 2025 Roadmaster Elite with unrivaled luxury and comfort. The bike’s 2-up Heated and Cooled seat delivers unparalleled comfort for both rider and passenger, as a graphene material optimizes heating or cooling distribution while maintaining superior comfort. Spacious floorboards and passenger armrests are also standard on the 2025 Roadmaster Elite.

Adding custom-inspired styling and delivering luxury comfort is an adjustable Flare Windshield. A handlebar-mounted switch will raise or lower the windshield by four inches – allowing riders to select their preferred windshield height for more or less wind on the face and helmet.

Finally, the 2025 Roadmaster Elite features remote-locking saddlebags and a tour trunk. Riders can simply press a button on the console or key fob, and cargo is stowed away safely.

Sturgis Motorcycle Museum Reports Successful Riding Season and Expanded Impact on Local Economy

The Sturgis Motorcycle Museum wrapped up the 2024 motorcycle riding season with strong year-to-date attendance and significant contributions to the economy of the Black Hills and the City of Sturgis.

“This year was a tremendous success for the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum,” said Museum Executive Director Heidi Haro. “We welcomed thousands of guests from around the world, not just motorcycle enthusiasts, but also Black Hills visitors that are curious about the rich history and culture surrounding the Sturgis Rally.”

The Museum served as a major draw for riders and non-riders, which is on-track to bring nearly 20,000 visitors to downtown Sturgis, with a corresponding boost to the city’s economy.? These visitors enjoyed exploring the extensive collection of motorcycles, ranging from rare vintage models to award winning custom bikes and soaked up some of motorcycling’s rich history through the Hall of Fame and the stories behind the inductees to the Hall.

Special Events Rev Up Museum Energy

The Museum hosted a variety of events throughout the season, further amplifying its appeal and economic impact:

  • Scott Jacobs Unveils Newest Panting: Renowned artist Scott Jacobs chose the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum as the venue for the unveiling of his latest masterpiece, an oil painting titled “Rivals in the Dust,” featuring American Flat Track champions Scott Parker and Jared Mees. Nearly 100 attendees witnessed the unveiling and received a limited-edition print signed by the artist and both of the riders, with proceeds benefiting the Museum.
  • Michael Lichter Captures the Spirit of the Rally: A special exhibit curated by Keith Ball and sponsored by Bikernet.com showcased ten iconic photographs by renowned photographer Michael Lichter. These captivating images chronicled riders, events, and the camaraderie that defines the Sturgis Rally experience.
  • Sold-Out Hall of Fame Induction Breakfast: The Museum’s signature fundraising event, the annual Hall of Fame Induction Breakfast, sold out well in advance of the event which took place in August during the Sturgis Rally. This year’s inductees are a diverse group, whose backgrounds include Hollywood fame, racing championships, and business success. All of the inductees share a passion for motorcycles and a penchant for supporting veterans, the elderly, or motorcyclists’ rights. South Dakota Governor Kristie Noem attended the event and introduced David Uhl, a 2024 HOF inductee and noted motorcycle artist, who also happens to be the painter of her official portrait.
  • Supporting AFT Sturgis TT Race: As a proud partner of the AMA Flat Track racing community, the Museum actively supported the inaugural AFT Sturgis TT Race, the first-ever motorcycle race on the streets of downtown Sturgis. Held during the final weekend of the Rally and broadcast nationally on Fox TV, the event attracted dozens of race teams and riders and brought thousands of race fans to the city.
  • Good Guys’ Hall of Fame Road Tour: In September, the Museum partnered with the Good Guys’ Hall of Fame Road Tour. This unique event brought a rolling showcase of custom cars to the museum’s parking area, making downtown Sturgis a destination for hundreds of excited custom car enthusiasts.

Expanding Collection Enhances Visitor Experience

Beyond exciting events, the Museum’s permanent collection saw significant growth, adding seven unique motorcycles to its already impressive collection. These new additions ranged from early 20th-century Harley-Davidsons to a globally recognized, award-winning custom motorcycle.? In addition, valuable racing and riding memorabilia donations further enhanced the Museum’s offerings. The museum’s curators typically rotate the collection to highlight new and “featured” motorcycles.?

Looking Ahead: A Commitment to Sturgis and Beyond

“We are thrilled with the positive impact the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum is having on the local community,” commented Museum Board Chair Craig Bailey. “Looking ahead, we are committed to expanding our Hall of Fame, offering even more engaging exhibits, and celebrating the motorcycle culture in Sturgis and beyond.”

Featuring stunning full chrome fuel tanks, the Limited Editions take inspiration from Knievel’s iconic white jumpsuit, adorned with Knievel’s iconic stars and stripes graphic on a crisp white base. The matching rear bodywork and contrasting matt Sapphire Black panels, are paired with statement leather seats featuring a gold-embroidered Evel Knievel signature logo, creating a bold, impressive look.

Rocket 3 GT Evel Knievel Limited Edition

Rocket 3 R Evel Knievel Limited Edition

Triumph Motorcycles’ Chief Commercial Officer Paul Stroud said: “Evel Knievel performed many stunts on Triumph motorcycles during the 60’s, but his jump at Caesar’s Palace on a T120 TT, was the moment he created a legend that has inspired generations of fans. Working with the Knievel family, we have created two striking Limited Editions that are as spectacular on the road as Evel Knievel was in his heyday. With just 250 of each model available globally featuring beautiful Knievel design touches and with a specially commissioned book celebrating his achievements with Triumph, these Rocket 3 Limited Editions will appeal to collectors, fans and the thrill seekers among us.”

DISTINCTIVE DESIGN AND PREMIUM FINISHES

The iconic red, white, and blue colour scheme which incorporates America’s stars and stripes, adorns the stunning chrome fuel tank, and continues on to the front mudguard, where it has been incorporated into a new EK graphic, while elegant gold signature graphics embellish the radiator cowls.

The exclusive colour scheme, with Pure White accents, and contrasting Matt Sapphire Black panels on the flyscreen, headlight bowl, mudguards, side panels, and rear bodywork, highlights the bike’s powerful presence. The premium leather seat features a gold-embroidered Evel Knievel signature and inset brushed aluminium Triumph badge, while a custom Knievel-branded start-up screen animation provides a bespoke welcome every time the 2,500cc triple fires up.

Every owner will also receive an exclusive, collector’s edition hardback book, specially commissioned by Triumph, telling the remarkable story of Evel Knievel and his iconic connection with the brand. Written by renowned author and Knievel expert Stuart Barker, each book will be individually numbered to match the bike and signed by Triumph CEO Nick Bloor – a prized collectable in its own right for any fan of Triumph and Knievel.

ULTIMATE PERFORMANCE AND UNMATCHED PRESENCE

Riders can choose between the Limited Edition Rocket 3 R, with its bold muscle-roadster stance providing optimum power and control, or the Rocket 3 GT, which adds a more relaxed riding position and generous pillion accommodation.

Both are powered by the world’s largest production motorcycle engine and this raw power translates into exhilarating acceleration and an unforgettable ride experience. The distinctive triple-exit silencers further enhance the presence of both motorcycles, producing a deep, resonant exhaust note that complements its muscular performance and amplifies its commanding road presence.

PHENOMENAL HANDLING

Harnessing the Rocket’s impressive performance to deliver a controlled and compliant ride are large 47mm diameter Showa forks, adjustable for rebound and compression damping. At the rear is a Showa monoshock RSU with piggy-back reservoir, fully adjustable for preload, rebound and compression damping.

Exceptional stopping power is provided by top-specification radial Brembo Stylema brake calipers with twin 320mm discs. These lightweight, compact, and high performing calipers offer great airflow for pad cooling during spirited riding. The Brembo M4.32 four-piston radial monobloc rear caliper and 300mm rear disc is bigger and more powerful than the front brake setup on many bikes, helping to provide massive stopping power. The Rocket 3 R and GT Evel Knievel Limited Editions retain full Optimised Cornering ABS functionality.

DISTINCT ERGONOMICS

Each Rocket offers a distinct feel and personality, due to key differences in their ergonomics. The Rocket R’s roadster rider position and handlebar placement is designed to create a purposeful and engaging ride. The GT has a slightly more swept back set-up with a 125mm difference in grip position versus the R, for a more upright riding position.

Each model also gets its own dedicated seating set-up. The Rocket 3 R has a roadster rider and pillion seat with a 773mm seat height, offering comfort, low-speed confidence and manoeuvrability. Designed for enhanced comfort on longer rides, the Rocket 3 GT Evel Knievel Limited Edition offers greater touring comfort with more generously padded leather rider and pillion seats, with matching leather pillion backrest, ensuring both comfort and style for the passenger. The seat height for the GT is just 750mm, further improving rider confidence.

The biggest difference between the two models is the footpeg positions. The R has mid-foot controls, with two settings that offer 15mm of vertical adjustment, to cater for every size of rider, delivering a natural and sporty riding position. The GT has feet forward foot controls giving a more laid-back cruiser feel, with three horizontal position settings offering 50mm of adjustment, to provide the most comfortable position for long rides. Both R and GT models have innovative, neat, retractable pillion footrests.

Amplifying the bikes’ aggressive stance and attitude, both Rocket 3 Limited Editions have twin LED headlights with the Triumph maker’s mark triangle and signature shaped daytime running lights (DRL)*. There are LED indicators, rear light and number plate light, delivering a really distinctive light signature maintaining the Rocket 3’s strong road presence even at night.

GENEROUSLY EQUIPPED Intuitive rider-focused technology allows riders to confidently exploit the Rocket 3 R and GT epic performance potential.

Ride-by-wire enhances rideability, safety and control, while the Rocket’s high-performance gearbox is engineered with helical cut gears to transmit the huge torque to the rear wheel smoothly. The Torque Assist clutch helps riders shift up and down the six-speed box with satisfying speed and smoothness, while a Triumph Shift Assist quickshifter is available as an accessory fit for both models.

Both models feature optimised cornering ABS and traction control for enhanced stability, improving both straight line and cornering, acceleration and braking. Hill Hold prevents the bike rolling backwards and applies the rear brake until sensing the rider is starting to move off. Both come equipped with four riding modes, road, rain, sport and rider-configurable, which adjusts the throttle map and traction control settings.

The electronic cruise control system is fitted as standard as well. Activated by a single press of the button, the speed can be set and adjusted up or down in 1mph increments, as well as be resumed with just one touch.

Both models feature a high functionality full colour TFT set-up with a five-way back-lit joystick. This has a minimal stylish design with two information layout design themes, and the adjustable instrument angle set-up provides optimum visibility for every height of rider. The rider can even personalise the start-up screen message with their name.

Adding extra security, both bikes have standard fit keyless ignition and steering lock, which can be disabled. The key fob can also be turned off to prolong battery life and increase security. Plus, there’s a USB charging socket in a dedicated compartment under the seat, where devices can be kept safe and dry while charging.

LIMITED EDITION WITH EXTRA PERSONALISATION

With over 50 Genuine Triumph Accessories to add comfort, practicality, style and security, riders can customise their Limited Edition Rocket to make it truly bespoke. Owners can choose from interchangeable R and GT foot controls, rider and pillion seats for tailored ergonomics, plug and play technology for greater convenience, styling parts to customise the look and luggage solutions for longer rides.

THE MAKING OF A LEGEND – EVEL KNIEVEL

Robert Craig “Evel” Knievel (October 17, 1938 – November 30, 2007) was an iconic American motorcycle stunt performer and showman, performing ramp-to-ramp motorcycle jumps during a career that took him from rural county fairs to sold-out stadiums.

To many generations of fans, he was more than just a stuntman—he was a symbol of daring and adventure, and Triumph motorcycles played a pivotal role in his rise to fame. Knievel performed some of his most iconic jumps on a Triumph Bonneville, including his first televised stunt and the infamous 1967 Caesar’s Palace fountain jump, which cemented his global fame. During 1967 and 1968, Knievel exclusively rode Triumphs, recognizing their superior handling and reliability for his dangerous feats.

Evel’s iconic name supposedly came about after a police chase in 1956 in which he crashed his motorcycle. Taken to jail on a charge of reckless driving he was placed in a cell next to one William Knoffel. Knoffel was well known as ‘Awful Knoffel’ (rhyming ‘awful’ with ‘Knoffel’), and at roll call the guard referred to Knievel as ‘Evil Knievel’. Evel adopted the tag and chose the misspelling to match his last name… and because he didn’t want to be considered ‘evil!’

Performing more than 175 jumps during a career that took him from rural county fairs to sold-out stadiums, Knievel went toe-to-toe with danger and lived to tell the tale.? He is recognised by Guinness World Records as having broken or re-broken more bones than any person in history, with the total listed at 433 (although this is likely exaggerated), and he would spend years of his life in hospital.?? But despite failed jumps, crashes, and multiple broken bones, he always rose to perform again.

Evel Knievel has left a remarkable legacy behind him. He inspired an entire generation of kids to jump their pushbikes over ramps and, later, to progress onto motorcycles. In fact, most of today’s top stunt performers and extreme sports athletes credit Evel Knievel as an inspiration.

In every kid who pops a wheelie on their pushbike, in every motorcyclist who guns the throttle, the spirit of Evel Knievel lives on.

EVEL KNIEVEL AND TRIUMPH

In 1967, Knievel finally received national exposure with his first appearance on ABC’s ‘Wide World of Sports’ jumping a 650cc Bonneville T120 over 15 cars at Ascot Park Speedway in Gardena, California.

During 1967 and 1968 Evel Knievel exclusively rode Triumphs, provided by Johnson Motors in Los Angeles. He made at least 15 jumps all over America first over cars and then on to the longest attempt of his entire career – 141 feet over the Caesar’s Palace fountains in Las Vegas.

In 1978, Knievel opted to ride a Triumph again for what would prove to be his final public appearances, this time on a 750cc Bonneville T140. By that point, Knievel was too badly injured to make jumps, so instead he would perform wheelies and act as master of ceremonies, while other stuntmen and women provided the thrills and spills. His final public performance was in Puerto Rico in March of 1980, meaning Evel Knievel saw out his career on a Triumph – the same manufacturer with whom he had originally made his name.

ASCOT PARK SPEEDWAY – FIRST TV PERFORMANCE

Evel Knievel got his first breakthrough when ABC’s ‘Wide World of Sports’ agreed to film him jumping over 15 cars at Ascot Park Speedway in Gardena, Southern California.

The jump marked the first time Knievel had ever appeared on national television, with the footage airing two weeks after the jump.? On March 25, 1967, American TV audiences got to see Evel Knievel jumping his Triumph Bonneville for the very first time.

The Ascot jump predated Evel’s now iconic white jumpsuit and cape. Instead, he wore yellow and black leathers, but he would return to Ascot a few months later to jump 16 cars – this time sporting a white jump suit for the first time.

COLOR ME LUCKY

Eight months on from Gardena, Evel Knievel shot to worldwide fame overnight after attempting to leap over the fountains at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas on a Triumph Bonneville T120 called ‘Color me Lucky’.

Ahead of the New Year’s Eve festivities, thousands gathered outside the casino on December 31, 1967, to watch the attempt. After soaring 141 feet over the fountains, Knievel lost control of his Bonneville on landing and crashed spectacularly, horrifying the spectators.

Knievel suffered a concussion, multiple broken ribs, a broken left hip, a crushed pelvis, a broken jaw, and a broken nose. “I was hurt real bad,” he said. After spending 29 days in a coma, Knievel woke to discover that he was internationally famous, and that his life would never be the same again.

ROCKET MAN: THE SNAKE RIVER CANYON JUMP

Of all the outrageous stunts Evel Knievel performed, the most spectacular was his attempt to leap over the 500m (more than a quarter-mile) wide Snake River Canyon in Idaho, using a steam-powered rocket he dubbed the X-2.

But long before the X-2 was built, Evel had planned to make the jump on a heavily modified Triumph Bonneville T120 he referred to as the ‘Skycycle’. The original idea had been to jump over the Grand Canyon, and a mocked-up Triumph was shown at events to drum up publicity for the jump. The dummy Bonneville was fitted with four-foot delta wings, a seatbelt, a parachute, and two jet booster engines.

Permission for the Grand Canyon stunt was refused by the National Park Service. So, after flying over it one day, Knievel switched his attention to the narrower, but still imposing, Snake River Canyon instead.? Even so, it became apparent that it would take a different kind of vehicle than a conventional motorcycle to make such a huge jump. Never one to give up, Knievel adapted his plans and, along with US-Navy rocket engineer Bob Truax, developed a super-heated, steam-powered rocket – Knievel dubbed it the Skycycle X-2.

On September 8, 1974, after months of hyperbole, Knievel pressed the launch button and shot up a ramp, set at a 56-degree angle, hoping to reach a maximum speed of 394mph five seconds into the flight, before both he and his Skycycle X-2 drifted down to safety on the other side of the canyon with the use of parachutes. It was one of the most spectacular, and dangerous, stunts ever attempted… but, ultimately, it failed. The rocket’s drogue parachute deployed on take-off, causing Knievel and the Skycycle to lose control. The world watched on in horror as Knievel disappeared into the canyon, not knowing if he was alive or dead.

Miraculously, he crash-landed against a rocky outcrop a few feet from the river in which he would surely have drowned, surviving the crash relatively unhurt, and was picked up by a rescue team.

The Snake River Canyon stunt proved to be a major catalyst of Evel Knievel’s remarkable career. Although he would complete many more successful jumps, he would never again attempt anything so outlandish, nor on such a massive scale.? But, by then, his legacy was well and truly established and just like James Dean, Steve McQueen and Marlon Brando before him – he had helped thrust motorcycling into the heart of popular culture worldwide.

In 2024, as part of the celebrations marking the 50th anniversary of the Snake River Canyon attempt, Evel’s son Kelly and stunt legend Robbie Madison led the anniversary parade through Twin Falls, Idaho on two special tribute machines, a Bonneville T120 and a Rocket 3 painted in a one-off scheme inspired by Evel’s original ‘Color me Lucky’ Caesar’s Palace Triumph.

Polaris Launches Polaris Adventures Elite to Better Help Small Outdoor Experience Businesses

Polaris Adventures, the experience business of global powersports leader?Polaris Inc.?(NYSE:?PII), today introduced?Polaris Adventures Elite, a suite of more than 20 tools created to help small, independent outdoor experience operators run their business more efficiently, and further advance the overall outdoor adventure experience for customers.

From a custom-built, integrated reservation technology system to protections and risk management, Polaris Adventures Elite seamlessly integrates multiple business aspects into one platform to help deliver streamlined solutions for daily business operations and relieve common pain points for its Polaris Adventures Outfitters.

“We’ve heard from our outfitter partners that they originally got into the recreation rental industry as a way to incorporate their personal passion for the outdoors?into a business,” said Gray Rentz, vice president and general manager, Polaris Experience. “At Polaris Adventures we have a similar mindset. Combining that with our knowledge and capabilities as a Fortune 500 company, we are focused on offering resources, like Polaris Adventures Elite, to help simplify the day-to-day operations and streamline backend systems. This means our Outfitters can spend more time focusing on what they love most – providing unique and localized outdoor experiences.”

Currently, the reservation technology systems available in the market have limitations when used in the powersports space. Polaris Adventures recognized this as a common challenge for its Outfitters and applied their deep knowledge of the powersports rental industry to create a system that allows for multiple reservation types on a single platform – MPWR Book. This custom-built reservation technology can also be used for other business purposes like tracking maintenance of vehicles, inventory and more, greatly decreasing the administrative overhead and increasing overall visibility and efficiency. MPWR Book also simplifies the experience for the customer looking to book their next outdoor adventure.

“I think for the industry, Polaris Adventures is the best and these enhancements only improve the experience for Outfitters in general. Digitizing and automation of maintenance tracking is huge and will pay dividends,” said Jon Berry, owner of Pocono Outdoor Adventure Tours. “I love the concept of MPWR Book, we’ll no longer need to fit little square pegs into a round hole – having a system tailored?to our specific needs and simplified is exactly what is needed.”

Since its launch in 2017, Polaris Adventures has become a leading powersports vehicles’ rental program, creating opportunities for customers to get outside, try new activities, or even new models for those who may already own a powersports vehicle. Speed Triple Owners Invited to Celebrate 30 Years

riumph Motorcycles is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Speed Triple with an all-day event on Saturday 30 November 2024 at the Triumph Factory Visitor Experience, Hinckley.

Fans of the iconic Speed Triple will be meeting at the Triumph Factory Visitor Experience to celebrate this special anniversary and browse a display of customised and accessorised Speed Triples from the last 30 years.

Owners of distinctive and unique Speed Triples are invited to participate as Official Exhibitors, to display their motorcycle as part of the exhibition and receive an exclusive 30th Anniversary Gift Pack. Owners can register their interest in exhibiting here. ?

Known as the Original Hooligan, the Speed Triple launched in 1994, creating a new motorcycle category and setting the benchmark for factory streetfighters. Aggressive and purposeful, the original Triumph Speed Triple was designed from the ground up for the road, as a naked performance street bike.

The 2005 Speed Triple 1050 then reset the benchmark all over again in a competitive class of track-oriented sports bikes. In 2021, the Speed Triple 1200 RS returned to its roots as a road-focused naked performance street bike, reborn as the most agile, most powerful and fastest accelerating Speed Triple ever.
