Erica B: Super insightful. Washington has created an enforcement mechanism that allows tenants to sue for source of income discrimination. The penalty is 4.5 times the rent plus legal fees. But even if a landlord agrees to an application with voucher, the housing needs to meet Section 8 requirements . . . Via LinkedIn
Harry Gural: The DC Housing Authority would have to stop overpaying landlords by more than $1 million per month for apartments rented to voucher recipients, which wastes US taxpayer money and may lead to a public backlash against affordable housing initiatives.?Via Twitter
CF: I wish the Public Housing Authorities would prioritize serving people who are currently experiencing homelessness. One of the facts you forgot to point out is that over 90% of the people who are waiting for a Section 8 voucher, do so while housed. Yes, I understand that they are cost burdened and may not be living in the best conditions as people with low incomes, but should they get priority over people who are living on the sidewalks? Seems like the priority should be to serve people who are literally homeless first, then work our way up to those who have homes.?Read more

AlleyCatRanch: Rent control. Rents are so obscenely high that almost any working class person will need gov’t subsidies to stay housed. Charge large fees/taxes to the rich entities that have ruined housing for the masses. Via Twitter
Ashley DeAngelo MSW: Did you know that Maine told me that I would have to wait 7 years to get Section 8? That is ridiculous Via Twitter
Dwayne Keys: Explains so much, especially the indifference shown by Black & Brown residents & the Southside & West End when it comes to “enhancements” & “improvements” via gentrification in Providence.?Via Twitter
