THIS WEEK IN MUSIC

A weekly update on all things music, advertising, and technology coming straight to you from Anthony Vanger at SIXIèME SON. #TWIM

ARTIST OF THE WEEK: SLOWDIVE

From the ashes of history, a band formed in 1989 roars back to life. Slowdive,?a fan favourite of the?shoegaze ?scene, rose to prominence in England during the early 1990s, disbanded around 1995 and then reunited in 2014, released an album in 2017, their first in 17 years, and now have just released their fifth studio album?Everything Is Alive ?which became Slowdive's first top ten album in any country, doing so in Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands, New Zealand and the United Kingdom. What a story and what an album. The sound has many elements of the 80s and 90s,?with shades of Cocteau Twins and Jesus and The Mary Chain,?but somehow the band has evolved into something current. I especially love the subtle guitar work in the background and the stacked dreamy vocals. The music is minimal, restrained, and full of power. They are supposed to be amazing live so go check them out at the Hammersmith Apollo, February 17, 2024.?Click on the picture below to see the full video!
