GLOBAL ECONOMIC PULSE

USA: The Federal Reserve (Fed) is expected to keep rates unchanged at the upcoming June meeting, focusing on its stance regarding future rate cuts, with the first cut anticipated around November. The CME FedWatch tool highlights rising price pressures per recent Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) data. Additionally, US May Consumer Price Index (CPI) data will be released, expected to show persistent inflation above the Fed’s target rate.

EUROPE: In the United Kingdom (UK), April employment and Gross Domestic Product (GDP) data will be released, with emphasis on how these figures influence the Bank of England (BoE)'s decisions on lowering rates. The central bank is closely monitoring labor market conditions and wage growth to gauge inflationary pressures. Eurozone industrial production figures are also due, shedding light on the region's economic health.

ASIA: In India, May's Consumer Price Index (CPI) is expected to rise by 0.5% month-on-month, resulting in an annual inflation rate of 4.8%, with no immediate impact on the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). China anticipates stable Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation around 0.3% year-on-year for May, with the Producer Price Index (PPI) remaining in deflation. The Bank of Japan (BoJ) is likely to hold off on a rate hike, awaiting more data, though a 15 basis point hike could occur in July. Australia will see its May labor report, predicting a slight uptick in the unemployment rate to 4.2%.

WEEKLY EXECUTIVE BRIEF

A Primer on EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD)?

The Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD) became law in Europe in late May.? It aims to mandate large companies operating within the EU to incorporate human rights and environmental due diligence into their operations and supply chains. The directive seeks to harmonize due diligence requirements across EU Member States, setting minimum standards to ensure responsible business conduct. ?This legislation is intended to level the playing field for businesses within the EU market, requiring them to identify, address, and mitigate adverse human rights and environmental impacts.
