No more Gartner? Magic Quadrant? for ITSM?
The Gartner ITSM Market Guide is revolutionizing the way information about ITSM trends and market developments is presented. Out with the old Magic Quadrant, which simply ranked vendors and granted the coveted "Leader" status, and in with a new, more comprehensive approach. The updated Market Guide places a stronger emphasis on technology advancements rather than individual vendors. According to the report, AI is rapidly infiltrating ITSM processes, while Enterprise Service Management (ESM) is gradually gaining attention. Nonetheless, the extent of capabilities and adoption of these cutting-edge features can greatly vary among different vendors. The Biggest Change for Remote Work
In just half a decade, the concept of remote work has transformed from a minor perk to a coveted privilege that people are actively vying for. Exceeding the available opportunities, the demand for remote jobs remains high: as of December 2023, LinkedIn postings displayed less than 10% for remote roles, after reaching a peak of 20.6% in March 2022. Despite this, almost half of job seekers still prioritize remote positions. However, according to Atlassian co-founder and co-CEO Scott Farquhar, remote jobs will not become obsolete, even if they may become more scarce. The software company, based in Australia, implemented a "Team Anywhere" policy in 2020, which grants employees the option to work remotely, in-person, or in a hybrid capacity. In response to employees' growing demands for flexibility and employers' need for in-office attendance, an increasing number of companies are shifting towards this hybrid approach. AI Playbook for CIOs
CIO Online stumbled over this great piece of advice ....
In 2024, as enterprise executives, it is crucial to adjust and manage our expectations effectively. This entails taking action by identifying suitable use cases, assembling teams, and monitoring progress and returns on investment. To help CIOs and other leaders get the best out of not just AI, but all essential tech, here are three targeted strategies. One effective approach is leveraging AI to supercharge IT efficiency. The launch of ChatGPT in 2022 sparked an intense hype cycle for this innovative technology. In this fast-paced world of tech, it is essential for leaders to continuously review and streamline applications, particularly in the new age of AI.

As modern CIOs, it is imperative to cultivate strong relationships within the C-suite. A crucial guideline to keep in mind is to never search for a problem to fit your solution. Instead, proactively collaborate with other executives to address pressing business challenges. This critical partnership-building will undoubtedly characterize successful CIO leadership. In today's corporate landscape, technology systems are already overflowing, and financial resources are under tighter scrutiny. CIOs must lead their teams in avoiding the allure of the latest technological trends and focus on guiding them to make thoughtful and strategic decisions.
The new rule here: Define the problem before investing in a solution. #NoBrainer
Expected Rise in AI Adoption will Revolutionize Spendings
The influence of AI on technology spending is currently significant, although it has not yet reached transformative levels. Many businesses are exercising caution and deferring or scrapping IT projects in order to preserve their budgets. However, the future holds great promise, as experts predict that AI spending will skyrocket to as much as $300 billion by 2026. Despite the challenges of determining practical applications and organizing data effectively, the technology industry is gearing up to meet the anticipated demand for AI. Recent surveys have revealed that a growing number of CIOs are embracing AI implementation, with approximately 45% planning to do so in the next 12 to 24 months. As a result, there is expected to be a substantial uptick in technology spending, with 70% of CIOs anticipating that AI will drive up their budgets. Looking ahead, it is clear that AI's impact on technology spending will be substantial, and could potentially revolutionize the entire tech landscape. Kudos go out to InformationWeek ??
Enterprise Technology Blueprints
Our friends from Forbes shared some great thoughts on Enterprise Technology Blueprints. The Enterprise Technology Blueprint offers a powerful strategy that integrates IT Asset Management (ITAM) and FinOps to fine-tune a company's technological landscape. By providing a holistic perspective of the IT infrastructure, including hardware and software inventories, cloud expenditures, entitlements, usage, environmental aspects, and potential risks, this approach allows for the efficient identification and implementation of improvements.
- Spend Management: The blueprint aids in gaining accurate insights into IT spending, helping to prevent overspending on software licenses and entitlements that aren't optimized for staffing and usage needs.
- Cloud Cost Management: It addresses cloud cost management problems, such as unnecessary duplication of licenses during cloud migration.
- Risk Management: The blueprint helps in identifying and mitigating security risks, such as those presented by end-of-life/end-of-service (EOL/EOS) resources that aren't well-tracked and well-documented.
- Adaptability: The solutions developed should be adaptable to the changing needs of the organization, easy to pivot, and prescriptive on how to complete use cases.
- Collaboration: The blueprint serves as a single source of truth, enabling teams to collaborate effectively and businesses to thrive.
