The market gained modestly in a quiet holiday week, with broader indices lagging behind.

For the week ending, the Sensex rose 0.84% to 78,699.07, and the Nifty 50 gained 0.96% to 23,813.40.?

The BSE Mid-Cap index edged up 0.21%, while the Small-Cap index dipped 0.18%.

Economy: India's forex reserves declined by $1.98 billion to $652.87 billion as of December 13, according to RBI data. The fall was mainly due to a $3 billion drop in Foreign Currency Assets (FCA), now at $562.58 billion. Gold reserves rose by $1.12 billion to $68 billion, while Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) decreased by $35 million to $17.99 billion. The reserve position with the IMF also fell by $27 million, settling at $42.40 billion.

In the U.S., the Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) price index, a key measure of inflation, rose 0.1% in November, slower than October’s 0.2% increase. On an annual basis, PCE inflation stood at 2.4%, remaining above the Federal Reserve's 2% target, indicating ongoing inflationary pressures. Tokyo's November inflation rose to 3%, up from 2.6% in October, with core inflation at 2.4%, signaling broader national trends. In the U.K., revised data showed no GDP growth in Q3, contrary to the preliminary estimate of 0.1% growth released last month by the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
