Heads up
We’re going to be taking a short break from the regularly scheduled programming and release schedule to gather new ideas and thoughts for you. Don’t worry, though. The newest addition will be out on March 1st.
We’ll also be releasing more information about the RecOps event.
Upleveling Your Networking - Inspired by Tom Allegretti Jr. ’s Post
In case you missed it on Monday, Tom had a fantastic post about how to network into your next job. The original post is brilliant, so we highly recommend reading and engaging with it.
Inevitably, in networking conversations, someone will ask the question, “So, how can I help you?” When this question arises, it is usually from the person perceived to have the most power but necessarily. So as not to fumble the ask, especially if there isn’t a specific one you're targeting (e.g. like asking for a job, an assignment, etc), the advice that most people get is to ask for who you should speak to next. This is solid advice because it helps you build introductions and generally, assuming the conversation went well, most people like to make those introductions.
Tom’s advice, though, takes that to the next level and is especially important if you are in a niche type of role (most high-level RecOps roles are) or looking to grow your career. His suggestion is also to ask them if any Sourcer/Recruiter reaches out about an open job that they aren’t interested in, if they would be open to sharing your name or, even better, your resume with that Sourcer/Recruiter. This is beneficial in two ways:
So RecOps folks, the next time you are having a conversation, especially one about your future, be sure to consider Tom’s advice.
