A Week in Fearless Adventures Investment Enquiries
Since launching Fearless Adventures last year, we’ve received thousands of investment enquiries.
The nature of those enquiries varies all the time, but each week, we take a step back and search for any insight they can offer into the current climate for founders seeking investment.
This week, I’d like to share that insight with all of you:
?? 22% of the businesses enquiring for investment have had a female fonder
?? The average amount of money being raised was £500k
?? The average number of slides in a deck was 15
?? Lots of founders sent introductory messages before sending over their decks
?? Common industries included wellbeing, tech and recruitment
?? Many founders are looking for a chat and some support

?? If there is more than 1 founder then they are more confident in asking for a larger raise - the ones asking for more than £1m tend to have 2-3 founders
From this, there are number of things for us to think about that will go on to shape our approach in the weeks that follow:
?? Practices such as our signature on the Investing in Women’s Code, internal training and external messaging are drawing a more diverse range of founders in. This is exactly what we want to see happening and something we will continue to innovate around.
?? Do founders feel as though attaching a deck to a first message is too much of a hard sell for an initial conversation? How can we work to build up the confidence of founders who might be looking to take investment soon?
?? Our model of providing a range of support alongside financial investment is desperately needed. With founders reaching out for a listening ear - we know that there is an absence of support available publicly and freely. What can we do to keep pushing forwards in this area??
?? Lone founders need more support in building their confidence than founding teams. As investors, we know that a large part of what we will be doing when working with a less-confident founder will include pushing them out of their comfort zones, offering them advice and encouraging them to shoot for the moon when building aspirations for their business.

2 年Dominic McGregor Interesting stats. And most I agree with. But decks? I believe in relational entrepreneurship - where relations with investors come first - pitch, deck, product and sell come much further down the line. #ditchthedeck
