* If you thought China's silence in AI forums meant they were stepping back, think again! Alibaba - the Chinese e-commerce giant that owns brands like AliExpress - has just announced the release of 100 open-source AI models, along with a video generation tool from text inputs.

* The new models, named Qwen 2.5, have been trained for use in various applications and industries, ranging from automotive to gaming and scientific research. Since they are open-source, anyone—researchers, academics, companies, or governments—can freely use them worldwide.

Some examples include:

• Qwen2.5: the generalist (available in 0.5B, 1.5B, 3B, 7B, 14B, 32B, and 72B variants)
• Qwen2.5-Coder: focused on programming and development (1.5B, 7B)
• Qwen2.5-Math: designed for solving mathematical calculations and equations (1.5B, 7B, and 72B)

All models (except for the 3B and 72B variants) are already available under the Apache 2.0 license, found in the respective HuggingFace repositories.
