A Week in the CFA Tax Office
For my school work experience I spent the week in the CFA Tax office learning the basics of being an accountant.
On my first day, we talked through what an accountant was and the different routes and roles they perform. We started with personal tax as I created my mum a government gateway account. She is a care assistant at York hospital and I helped her get some tax back on her uniform. We then discussed how I would calculate tax and national insurance on a basic payslip and worked through several examples.
On Tuesday, Selby had a heat wave reaching temperatures of over 40 degrees so we only worked half a day but in that time we looked at bookkeeping. CFA Tax is a paperless office so we went through how to use the bookkeeping software called 'FreeAgent'.
On Thursday morning me and Cassie attended a networking event where I learned about Net-Zero and Sustainability. We had a bonus bacon sandwich and cup of tea whilst we had a chat with other business owners. Back at the office in the afternoon I started to piece the bookkeeping together to form a set of accounts.
On Friday, I helped another client get a tax repayment by summarizing his business cash receipts to get tax relief.
Overall I had a lovely week and have been invited to return to the office to help Cassie in the school summer holidays.
