What Investors Are Looking for in a Beauty Start Up

Investors in the beauty startup space are becoming more selective with their investments

Investors in the beauty startup space are becoming more selective with their investments, even though capital is crucial for emerging brands in a competitive market. Here are three main takeaways from this article:

  1. Focus on Wholesale Partnerships: Investors are encouraging beauty brands to prioritize entering specialty retail channels, such as Sephora or Ulta Beauty, early in their development. This strategy helps gauge the brand's longevity and success. Performance at these retailers is seen as a key indicator of a brand's potential.
  2. Revenue Alone Isn't Enough: Investors are shifting away from solely relying on revenue as a metric for evaluating brands. Instead, they are looking for qualities like founder strength, brand authenticity, and the ability to create and maintain a dedicated audience. Brands that merely perform well without a strong brand identity are less attractive to investors.
  3. Cautious Approach to Celebrity-Backed Brands: Investors are becoming more discerning about celebrity-led beauty brands. They value founders who are fully committed to their brand and can build demand, community, and organic growth. Brands with celebrity founders who have other revenue streams may not weather challenges as effectively as brands led by dedicated founders.

The Latest in Nutricosmetics: Clearstem's Mindbodyskin 2 Supplement

Clearstem

Earlier this week, Clearstem released their viral Mindbodyskin 2 supplement with an updated formula. The coolest part: the formula is now safe to take alongside antidepressants and other mood stabilizers, making it inclusive of a wide range of customers.
