SXSW is one of the biggest tech, entertainment and cultural festivals of the year – and public voting for the PanelPicker section is now open.

Battenhall has pulled together four amazing speakers and a compelling topic that explores how community-driven storytelling is transforming brand marketing. It will aim to provide businesses with advice on how to use tech and social media to engage with audiences, build a brand ecosystem that resonates, and make communities active participants in campaigns.

Voting ends August 18th—be sure to cast your vote before time runs out!

2. X announces lawsuit over alleged advertising boycott

X is moving forward with a federal lawsuit in Texas against the World Federation of Advertisers, as well as CVS Health, Unilever, Mars, and ?rsted. The lawsuit claims that an orchestrated advertising boycott against X led to billions in lost revenue and violated antitrust laws. Both X CEO Linda Yaccarino and owner Elon Musk took to the platform to explain the decision to proceed after two years of issues.

3. Meta cuts detailed targeting exclusions for ad campaigns

After internal research revealed ad campaigns are more effective without targeted exclusions, Meta officially removed this option for advertisers. The setting allowed advertisers to exclude specific groups based on certain characteristics and behaviors, enabling selective audience targeting. The company found that removing detailed targeting exclusions improved performance by 22.6%.

4. U.S. Justice Department says TikTok violated FTC settlement

The U.S. Justice Department claims TikTok and its parent company ByteDance violated a 2019 settlement with the FTC by continuing to collect data on children without parental consent and failing to honor data deletion requests. The lawsuit is yet another headache for TikTok, as the company continues to face pressure over a potential U.S. ban if it fails to divest from ByteDance in the coming months.

5. Snapchat+ reaches 11 million user milestone

Snapchat is making impressive progress with its paid subscription model, announcing during its Q2 update that Snapchat+ has reached more than 11 million users. The company attributes most of its success to offering a wide range of special features, including AR features, Snapchat for Web, and generative AI capabilities.
