The Week Of AI, Wordle Editor... And Online Marketing
This week has been all about AI developments with Google and Microsoft.
On Tuesday, Microsoft announced "Bing, now with AI".?My primary feeling when trying it out was fun and curiosity, which is not a typical search engine emotion these days.?Bodes well for clawing back market share.??
Google announced their AI Chatbot,?Bard?on Monday, and held a?chaotic event?(Wrong answers from Google??Someone forgot the phone for the demo?)?on Wednesday.?
Perhaps the most interesting point from an SEO perspective is that because it has such a small share, Microsoft can feel free to innovate faster because since the AI answers provide less incentive to click, they have?far less of their revenue dependent on the search results and clicks.?Google, on the other hand, has spent years seemingly innovating microscopically to increase Adwords revenue and has now switched into Code Red, even bringing?back their founders.
Internally, we've been discussing the implications for SEO and Wikipedia.?There's likely going to be a continual emphasis on "best content wins".?Many of these AI apps are going to synthesize answers, and they're going to be relying on trusted resources even more than they do now.??All of which is timely, as we're doing a?LinkedIn Live event?next week on?Wikipedia and SEO,?and there are already over 100 registrants, which is a new record.
