13'th Generative AI meetup

Once again, the 13th Generative AI Meetup was held, bringing together over 50 young people at the Stanbic Biashara Incubator. Led by speakers like kalebu Gwalugano , Rose Rwegasira , and others, the event also featured a hackathon with more than 8 teams competing. The winning project, Nilenini Chatbot, was a localized AI tool that helps users decide what to eat, when, and why, based on their needs. The innovation stood out, with emphasis placed on its potential for future success among all participants.

The Tanzania Communications Regulatory Authority (TCRA) has announced a competition from the African Telecommunication Union aimed at recognizing young innovators under 35 who are developing AI solutions. This competition offers a platform to support and highlight Africa's innovative talent. Winners will receive opportunities to further develop their skills through world-class training programs.

Lacuna Malaria Detection Challenge

The Lacuna Malaria Detection Challenge on Zindi invites participants to develop machine-learning models that can detect malaria parasites in images of blood smears. This competition aims to improve diagnostic accuracy in the fight against malaria. It provides data and encourages innovative solutions that can be implemented in real-world healthcare settings. Participants have the opportunity to contribute to global health while competing for prizes.

Young AI Leaders Community

The UN's AI for Good Impact Africa 2025 event is launching in South Africa next year, supported by the SA AI Association. As part of this initiative, they are creating the Young AI Leaders Community, offering young innovators the chance to collaborate on AI solutions for global challenges, such as climate action, education, and health. Members will develop leadership skills, work on real-world projects, and connect with a global network of like-minded peers. Applications close on December 1st.
