Week 7 of Podcast Recommendations: Climate and Sustainability Episodes
Here is Week 7 (of 12) of my podcast recommendations.?This week’s theme covers the environment, recycling, pollution and plant-based diets.?Some of the most interesting episodes I’ve heard recently are:
“The world on fire: How to deal with wildfires.” Living Planet by DW (Deutsche Welle). DW is a German TV channel and its podcasts are always well-researched and engaging.?Living Planet covers all sorts of climate topics including water conservation, genetic modification, decarbonization and much more. (29 minutes)
“For Ken Pucker circularity is just another win-win fantasy & distraction for the fashion industry.” Big Closets, Small Planet. Ken was the former COO of Timberland and is now a professor at Tufts.?He is one of the most knowledgeable experts in the world on fashion sustainability and he has a contrarian take on circularity. (1 hour)
“The tragedy of air pollution—and an urgent demand for clean air.” TED Climate. TED is the best at creating great content and then leveraging it across numerous formats.?These are the climate speeches and this one about the first child in the UK whose cause of death was air pollution should be required listening for everyone. (8?minutes)
“Does climate change mean a future without coffee?” The Climate Question by BBC. Leave it to the European broadcasters for the best audiomentaries on sustainability.?This podcast has a number of prescriptive solutions for how we can sate the global desire for coffee in new and innovative ways. (24 minutes)?

“Alexis Gauthier: A Michelin-Starred French Chef Embraced Vegan Food.” Eat for the Planet with Nil Zacharias. This podcast is all about plant-based eating. I suggest this episode because I love great restaurants and am hoping the future has more menus with non-meat dishes.?(1 hour)
“Three Archetypes of the Future of Food.” Red to Green Food Tech. ?This season’s topic is tech but some of the older seasons have even more interesting episodes on plastic alternatives, food waste and more. ?This episode is about the history of meat-based diets and concerns about food shortages. (35 minutes)
Thanks Ken Pucker for your recommendations! ?Also, I’d recommend the book Unraveled, by Maxine Bédat , which is an excellent book about the waste in the fashion industry.?Here’s a quick interview I did with her last year which touches on many of the book’s themes.
