A Week 5 Recap: Big Rivalries and Upsets in College Football

This past weekend marked Week 5 of college football, and with that came some highly anticipated matchups, which led to some unfortunately tough losses. It was a big weekend for the Tar Heels, who faced off against archrival Duke, and the storied Georgia vs. Alabama showdown certainly lived up to the hype. I spent the weekend in Oxford, Mississippi, to watch and celebrate the Ole Miss vs. Kentucky game, which should have been an easy win for the Landsharks. However, it ended in a devastating upset for the previously ranked #6 team in the nation.?
Of the three teams I was rooting for, they all ended up losing. As a Tar Heel, the loss to Duke was especially gut-wrenching after hoping we’d bounce back following the disastrous JMU game. I am also a Georgia fan by association since one of my closest friends from home goes to UGA, and I visit at least once a year. In fact, I’m heading there this weekend to catch the Georgia vs. Auburn game – super exciting! And of course, I was right there at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium with 60,000 Ole Miss fans, witnessing the Wildcats pull off an upset in real-time.?
Despite the losses, the weekend was still filled with excitement. The close games and unexpected outcomes are what makes college football so exciting, even when things don’t go your way. As I mentioned in an earlier blog post, football is a special element of the fall season, and weekends like this remind me why I love the game so much – win or lose.?
