Week 5 Its Not Only Time Thats Flying
Pieces of 8
Not quite two more sleeps but two more sessions with Natasha & Aine. Just saying.
Today arrived a little too quickly, the mood is good though and whilst some can be seen counting to 8, others are beyond that stage and clearly have it down.
I managed to practice this week and Brigitte and Dave offered great support to myself and the 'New Housemate', Sadhbh Carson who took to the floor like a duck to water.
In fact she was so good, I considered an eviction from the house, not only is she a great dancer, fast learner but also stole the youth vote as Neil Howarth bought his ticket today......selecting Sadhbh as his bestie.
In terms of an election It is more Donald Duck than Donald Trump but with Ashley and Alex on their side, herself & a very happy Gerry may now be in the running for 28th.
Practice makes Perfect
We were few in number Monday night but practice we did, a little like the Grand Prix it gets better through each stage and faster each session or so I thought as steady progress made on Monday did not translate to Tuesday, for me at least.
Jen and myself arrived early to practice as first up but refurbishment meant we lost our room. John kindly rearranged the furniture and two sofas and a TV now sit nicely in Jeff's house, I jest of course but the practice continued.
When we did group dance the space was more condensed but much more like city-west stage so we have a better appreciation of the size now.
After completing full routine with Jen we closed with a lift, Jen not me and we now have our full routine.
Funny looks & a visit from Dave Sweeney
As we were not in our usual spot we practiced in small groups or pairs and it was interesting to see how some people came to have a goo whilst
others did an about turn in case this was involuntary, best of all though was Stephen as he is the first to have his own fan club, one Dave Sweeney. ..
I made Stephen aware of course, and it is easy to see why people want to support a colleague but when I described him to Stephen, he put away the pen, and told me that Dave has been following since school, so long in fact that it was before injunctions.
Remote Control
Well as you know we are top drawer with technology and of course Gerry brings a CD Player, so we can add tunes. Of course we are delighted and fair play to him for dusting it off.
We are all lined up, with the ladies ready to start and I am heading to switch on the CD player when Dave whips out the remote and I just survive the stampede as the ladies set off. They really are very good.
Joanne, Aoife, Brigitte and Dave generous again with their time and helping the new or in my case slow through.
Anyhow as you can see, great group who share everything, someone even brought tarts and drinks, sorry no vicars. (Just a few prayers perhaps).
Well not quite everything, we are now in the landing area outside the llfts and set up ready to go but 'no remote', we look everywhere, Gerry will be devastated, thankfully he spent ages in the bathroom so we still had time to find it. Brigitte even threw in a few insults, I laughed all the way to the bottom.
We were just about to give up and press the play button when Gerry came out of the bathroom, took the remote out of his pocket and we were off, to be fair he did ask if anyone wanted the remote........he was met with a resounding chorus of NO.
Flying Without Wings
As we each session it has been great to chat with colleagues we may not know at all or very well, I think it's like a wedding, not as Gary described it something old, something borrowed, something blue or was it new.
Like a wedding it's clear who are old friends or family and then as the evening goes on you find you are more relaxed and talking to more people.
Coliin for example plays rugby and could do lifts tonight and Jess has issued him a verbal warning no more rugby until 29th.
Grahame our natural leader was not mentioned in last weeks blog and I have to admit he should have been as Eszter had in fact issued him a first written as he had dared to dance without her and of course he will be written up again shortly. (Wait till you see the program on the night, he stole one of Eszter's outfits and she has plenty).
But this weeks straight to written goes to Jeff, thank goodness for the
bean bag as he threw Suzanne across the room. Naturally he denied any intent, said he does the warm up 6 times a day and promised to only eat spinach three times a day.
Suzanne refused to comment and after her short flight was not at all happy to hear music when she landed.......another flight arrived early, this one did not even have a seat.
Pennies from Heaven and the Clown
I do not, have never and never will like shopping especially for clothes, so I was traumatised when Natasha told us we needed to wear a uniform for the group dance, this was after the group dance when she told us she has had more fun at a funeral that watching us and to enjoy ourselves and smile as we danced.
We talked tights, cover up knickers, the effect that lighting or was it lightning has and colours.
After I suggested clown suits for the men, I was put in the corner & the conversation moved on to Pennies, dickies and what the helpers are wearing on the night and raffle sellers. This is where Aine took control suggesting we run with a committee rather than by secret ballot.
Graham was nominated and himself and Aine will let us know but think Grahame wants yellow socks and blue dickies to go with his eyes. Aine had hair and make up sorted by the time I got home.
Final word or was it Final Round.
This week goes to Alexis, who had a business trip to Roscommon yesterday so could not practice, even though he is sliding round the sales, wore a clowns outfit today and finished 5 over par ........you better not tell Frances mate or Stephen will shoot you with his bow & arrow. Dave tells me he sees you taking aim all the time.
Well done Sadhbh and Colin and thanks for stepping up.
