Week 5: ??????
Helena Zilmer Levison
?? Queen of UX ?? actively working on raising the industry standard of UX in Denmark
Monday
I wasn't feeling great so I stayed in bed until I had to leave in order to make it to the office in time. I was teaching a Job seeker work session with some of our awesome CPHUX members. This one was a favorite theme of mine; LinkedIn.
I went through all of the attending members' LinkedIn pages, explaining what worked well and what needed to be improved. Starting out by asking them to choose 3 words that describe their UX profile the best, and then repeating them in the walkthrough to ensure their profile was communicating the right things. Staying true to themselves and being their authentic selves, I'm proud of Erzsébet Bálint , Olga Marta A. , Beril Kurtulus , Stela Valentinova , and Anamaria Roxana Rosu for doing the work it requires to get their next job ??
After the session, I had to go back home and acknowledge that it took all my energy that day.
Tuesday
I canceled almost all my meetings that day, besides a call with my old boss and legendary startup knowledge bank Zenia W. Francker (she/her) . She gave me some great advice on how to buy out my ex-co-founder and I learned new terms like: "Liquidation events"
When I decided to do my internship back in 2015 at Founders House (a co-working space for scalable tech startups) I couldn't put my finger on why that would be a perfect fit, but I knew it would be. I might not have learned that much as a designer, but I learned a lot about building community and startups. But most underrated, I got to meet SOOOO many amazing, passionate, and ambitious people, and they have shaped me to be the person I am today. Zenia was the one who gave me that chance and she is one of the women I admire the most. She is incredibly sharp but always meets people with attention and love. If only more people would be as awesome as her.
Wednesday & Thursday
A blur of sleeping and watching my husband and daughter play. Wednesday I was supposed to go to Aalborg University in Cph and do a talk for their students about how their choices will influence their careers. I was really sad I had to cancel but María Vitaller del Olmo promised me I can come at a later point.
Friday
Wishful thinking I got out of bed to meet with my mother group, but I was lovingly sent back home again ?? It sucks when you just really want to be well, but aren't.
I did manage to write a personal message in our second weekly UX Unite membership newsletter. I love writing these, it feels like I'm talking directly to them ??
I had a quick call with Luciano Lykkebo who gave me a few but really great pointers on a proposal I had written.

Saturday
I finally finished the book "Jeg er her jo" ≈ "I'm here though" which is about the largest case of rape, forced prostitution, and incest in Danish history. It's the story from the oldest of the two girls' perspective. Her life, the abuse of her father from years 3-11, her life in the system, her lows, from drug addiction, self-harm, planning her own death in Belgium, and how she turned it around. Reading her story I just feel my own love for my child, but also the sadness that children all around us aren't getting the love and care they need. I hope that I one day will be in a situation where I can take in a child and give it all the love it deserves just by being in the world. Humans ruin children. No child is born wrong or with negative traits, they get them from us, the grownups. I hope more grownups will be better in the future to reach out and ask for help when there are things they don't know. I'm fortunate to be surrounded by friends who have my back and make me a stronger mother; people like; Line Borgersen , Benedicte Zilmer , Michael Moldrup Zilmer , Christina Bruun , Johanna Corvenius Kreiss , Sally Gregersen , Emma-Emilie Knudsen , Alexandra Thomas, Birgitte Nilsson , Celine Duckert and Nanna Nielsen ????
Sunday
I had a "Welcome to CPHUX" meeting planned with Mykhailo Matei who works till 18 every day, so Sunday worked the best. It's rare that you meet a self-taught UX'er who is a mass consumer of online courses and really applies the knowledge, but he is one of those. Coming to Denmark from Ukraine after the war broke out, he is working hard to get his first job, so go check out his profile ??
I stayed in bed most of the day, but did get up and cooked some food for all of us. Since Lars and I got married we have subscribed to ?rstiderna where we every week get ingredients and recipes for the next week. I get to hack it a bit and make our food, or parts of it, baby friendly. It feels really great to put organic, homemade, and variated food in her mouth. It's easy because she is too small to ask questions, but I hope she will continue to eat the same as we do. I don't really like the concept of 'children's food'. I hope our family will be able to eat the same food together and give her great habits around food from an early age.
Next week
I hope I'm finally well after more than a week in bed ??
Monday we're visiting Valtech again for a UX Meet & Greet. The always positive energy woman Helle Jensen will let us in on how they work and I hope we get to inspire a whole generation of future Valtech'ers ??
