Week 34 - Leading with Heart
Jessica Valentine Nelson
Making the workplace one where people are productive, inspired, and enabled to create positive change.
When you realize you are off balance, that is the perfect opportunity to realign with your heart.
Life happens in the being and doing.
With work, notice the actions that come from autopilot and the actions that come from innovation and inspiration. The difference? Leading from your heart center.
How do we begin to discover and cultivate a meaningful relationship to our work and ourselves? Especially one that is a lifelong journey and a daily practice.
Work week 34 embraces the energy of back to school, perhaps a new fiscal year approaches or the season of mid-year talent discussions are in motion...
One of the easiest ways to connect to your heart is to schedule intention time doing the activities to calm the nervous system and support your creativity.
In my case, it's playing fetch with my dog in the morning or taking an evening yoga class.
These buffers allow me to tap into my being, regulate the nervous system, and self-soothe even in moments where I feel like I don't need it.

Create habits that align you with your passions, where you take time to do something you enjoy, where you let go of worry and tap into wonder.
We need a paradigm shift to our professional relationship to self. It's what you do, not who you are. Who you are is far more interesting and complex, especially if you create a kind, compassionate, loving relationship to yourself.
The reality is, life offers experiences to be off balance, feel lost, or experience doubt. If you can navigate the lessons, know when to let go, and when to embrace play....you will be able to come back to lead from your heart....through the stuff that feels easy and achievable to the gritty, resilient ruts as part of the human experience.
Take care, be kind, and connect to your heart center. Leading with heart takes courage and cultivating a practice of self-compassion. I am (and continue to) still learn how to be gentle with myself and others. Inner critics can be difficult to tame.
Seek professional help and leverage your EAP if your mental health is suffering and you feel like life is insurmountable. Always a PM away.
My goal is that this offers inspiration to help you turn your own insights into action.
Keep shining!
