Week 3 Update

It's been a great month. I've surpassed my running goals (but continue on until the end of the month). I'm very near my fundraising goals (but let's keep that going too!).

But as I'm able to run further every time I head out on my early morning solo jaunts around my community, my thoughts turn to those we are raising funds to support.

There is a strong commonality between cancer and mental health treatment and recovery. Like so many health ailments, while you can be surround by endless love and support and the best medical teams, the journey is very much an individual experience. And an isolating one. Globally, cancer is the second leading cause of death and loneliness has been suggested as a risk factor for cancer mortality. Being single was connected with worse survival outcomes for cancer patients. Mental health is no different. The feeling that no one 'gets you' or understands what is happening inside your head, can provide for a dramatic distancing between family, friends and co-workers.

Now imagine that through two years of a global pandemic.

That is why programs like these are so vitally important. Here in Ontario we're facing unprecedented demands on our health system, and in particular mental health. The world loses a man to suicide every minute of every day. The need is great and unquestionable. For each of you, I greatly appreciate you standing with me in support of those who need help.
