WEEK 3: TEAM MOTIVATION

We undertook a?nationwide survey ?to understand the state of high school coaching. Our questionnaire, consisting of 15 skill and ability-related questions went out to more than 6,000 coaches. Here’s what we learned.

DID YOU KNOW?

68% of coaches surveyed reported being below excellent at motivating their team to give maximum effort and investment.

ONE TAKEAWAY

When motivating a team, the most effective approach is simply to be yourself. Kids are perceptive; they can see through inauthenticity. By being genuine and sharing your dreams and aspirations for the team in your own unique way, you'll create a genuine connection. Remember, your personality might fluctuate from day to day—sometimes goofy, sometimes serious. Embrace these variations and avoid trying to be someone you're not. While enthusiastic pep talks in the locker room can be helpful, it's your daily conversations about your vision that will truly resonate with your players. Connect with them on a personal level. Show them that you care about them as individuals. By building strong relationships, you'll create a supportive and motivating environment.
