Andaz Bali | Opened April 2021

INDONESIA: On 19th April 2021 Conde Nast Traveller chose Andaz Bali as its ‘Hotel of the week’, highlighting the hotel’s “contemporary take on the traditional Balinese village”. Located in the Balinese village where Mick Jagger and Jerry Hall were married, this latest launch from Andaz has the benefit of “direct beach access” (Conde Nast Traveller) from where guests can enjoy the “fabulous moonrise that Sanur is famous for” (The Yak). Among palm trees and three swimming pools are 149 guestrooms including villas in a series of courtyards. “Cycle along the promenade of Sanur”, advises Sophie Digby in The Yak magazine, and watch the boats by “the jewel in the Andaz crown - The Fisherman’s Club”, one of four restaurants at the beachside hotel.

Our favourite feature: By the beach in Bali with three swimming pools.

Concepció by Nobis | Opens June 2021

SPAIN: “Tucked down a backstreet” (The Telegraph) in Palma, a new Scandinavian-Mediterranean style hotel turned up in The Telegraph’s ‘25 hot new hotels in Europe for sun-drenched summer holidays’ before it even opened. The “small boutique hotel with 31 rooms” (Scandinavian MIND) is by Stockholm based Nobis Hospitality Group which “owns some of the trendiest restaurants and nightspots in the Swedish capital” (Black Book). A former “soap factory” (Scandinavian MIND) is being turned into “the hottest new hotel in the Mallorcan capital” (The Telegraph) by renowned Swedish architecture firm, Wing?rdhs. Its “custom made tiles” and “beamed ceilings” which “date back to 1576”, (Black Book), are given a touch of the “jolly warmth and spot-on mix of vintage and modern” (The Telegraph) that Nobis does so well and there’s a pool on the roof.

Our favourite feature: Sleek design and a rooftop pool in Mallorca’s Old Town.

Mama Shelter, Bahrain | Opens July 2021

BAHRAIN: With a “trademark rooftop pool” (Country & Town House) offering “stunning sea views” (Time Out Bahrain) Mama Shelter is set to become a new city hot spot for drinks and shisha when it opens in Bahrain this year. Overlooking the marina in the capital city of Manama, Mama Bahrain is “in the prime waterfront district” (Country & Town House) of the Kingdom’s Financial Harbour area. Fun and colourful, all 160 rooms are designed by MAMA’s Design Studio, led by Benjamin El Dogha?li” (Country & Town House). One of five new hotels to join the “fast-growing Mama Shelter clan” (The Telegraph) from summer 2021, further new properties are forthcoming in Rome, Lisbon, Dubai and Paris. Make a beeline for Mama Shelter if you like “cosiness, colour and fun in abundance” (Conde Nast Traveller).

Our favourite feature: Colour, clashing patterns plus a rooftop pool = fun.

Chateau Denmark | Opens late Summer 2021

UK: Once home to the Sex Pistols, “the wild days of the punk and rock music scenes (Globetrender) make their mark on the mews house at No. 6 Denmark Street. Part of a development that’s “worth somewhere in the region of £1bn” (British GQ), new hotel Chateau Denmark features drawings left on the walls by Johnny Rotten. Guests can “channel their inner rock god” (Globetrender) at the hotel run by former Firmdale boss Carrie Wicks. Inspired by Denmark Street’s reputation as the birthplace of the British music scene, interiors feature psychedelic 60s and 70s aesthetics while “signature rooms will have maxi-bars... so you can party properly” (London On The Inside). With 55 suites, apartments and “session rooms” set across 16 properties, it’s a rocking hotel fit for a street that’s “home to a dizzying array of guitar and music shops” (British GQ).

Our favourite feature: Rock’n’roll hotel rooted in the past, updated with a dash of anarchy.

Life House, Chattanooga | Opens Winter 2021

USA: Described as a “high-design group” by Vogue, Life House takes over Chattanooga’s historic, beaux-arts train terminal, turning it into a boutique hotel. One of ‘18 of the Most Anticipated High-Design Hotel Openings of 2021’ chosen by Architectural Digest, travel writer Laura Itzkowitz draws our attention to the “40-seat cinema” and “recording studio”. “Quite possibly the coolest location for a hotel ever” (Fathom), the hotel also includes a 1970s-style lounge and restaurant but the best part is that “suites are to be housed in old-school Pullman train cars” (Vogue). This is one of three new hotels from Life House for 2021 with more to come in Miami and Bali - the first international hotel from the group which “has been turning heads Stateside” (Harpers Bazaar).

Our favourite feature: Train carriages as hotel suites recalls a romantic era of slow travel.
