A Great Coach

“What makes a coach great?” and “What is the secret to being a great coach?” I was asked both these questions in a recent interview I did for the launch of?Coach Camp , 3-Day masterclass I am hosting in London this October 2024.

When I coach people, I have one main aim. And that aim is re-acquainting my client with their capacity to be wise.

Everyone has the capacity to be wise.

Repeat to yourself?I AM a wise person. And notice how it feels to say this.

You are not more or less wise than someone else. Some of us use our wisdom more, that’s all.

I AM a wise person.

You always have access to wisdom. Wisdom is always available to you, but you must be willing to listen, and not be afraid of what wisdom wants you to know.

I AM a wise person.

When I coach someone, my aim is to help them know the difference between fear and wisdom. Life is a choice between fear and wisdom.

I AM a wise person.

Listening to your wisdom will always keep you safe. It will steer you in the direction that is best for you.

I AM a wise person.

When my daughter, Bo, comes to me with a worry, I begin by asking her to tell me what she is afraid of. Once we have both listened to her fears, I ask her, “What does your Truth Voice want you to know?”

I AM a wise person.

Even when you are experiencing confusion, your Truth Voice is still with you.

I AM a wise person.

Everybody has a Truth Voice. Louise Hay called it her “inner ding”. It’s the Voice that always speaks kindly to you. It may use words or a feeling. Or maybe an image. It may send a shiver down your spine or sound a ding!

I AM a wise preson.

It's never too late to be wise! We all have the capacity to be foolish and wise. It’s what makes us human and divine. Forgive yourself for your mistakes and listen to your Truth Voice.

I AM a wise person.

Oprah Winfrey put it this way: “The key to life is to develop an internal moral, emotional GPS that can tell you which way to go.”

I AM a wise person.

Seamus Heaney, the poet, advised us to be “true to your own solitude, true to your own secret knowledge.”

I AM a wise person.

Tom Carpenter, my mentor, was the first person to tell me I am wise. At first, I thought he was only being kind.?

I AM a wise person.

I had lots of questions for Tom, at first. He was so wise. But Tom kept on reminding me how wise I was.

I AM a wise person.

I’d ask Tom a question, and he’d say, “What do you think?” Tom wasn’t interested in doing my thinking for me.

I AM a wise person.

Wisdom will speak to you in a way that you can hear it. The lyric of a song. The shape of clouds. A feeling in your bones.

I AM a wise person.

When I coach people, I have one main aim. To re-acquaint you with your capacity to be wise.
