Local Artists Paint Some of Freedom Fibre’s UK Broadband Cabinets
Alternative network operator Freedom Fibre, which has already rolled out their full fibre (FTTP) gigabit broadband ISP network to cover 300,000 UK premises and aspires to cover 2 million in the future, has engaged local artists and school children in the Irlam (Salford) area to help give their street cabinets a colourful lick of paint.
On the Freedom Fibre cabinet on Liverpool Road depicts a large tree with handprints as leaves, each one individually designed by the pupils.
Broadband ISP Ogi Sees Wales Full Fibre Customers Reach 20,000
Broadband ISP Ogi, which is currently deploying a multi-Gigabit capable Fibre-to-the-Premises (FTTP) network to premises across parts of South Wales, have this morning revealed that their network has now signed-up “one in every five premises” covered (c.20,000 customers) and has so far completed two thirds of its planned Phase 1 rollout.?
The network operator has so far covered a total of 100,000 premises (Ready for Service) with their new full fibre network – most of them residential – in Wales up to the end of 2023 (up from 60k on 30th June 2023). The latest customer figure (c.20,000) would appear to mark a significant improvement from the 15,000 reported on 4th March 2024.
Ultra-fast connections in 285 municipalities of Abruzzo with the 'Italy 1 giga' plan within the PNRR
Italy's TIM has begun fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) wiring in multiple cities in Italy. as part of the "National Recovery and Resilience Plan" (PNRR), the "Italy 1 Giga Plan" project is accelerating. TIM announced the start of FTTH wiring in the provinces of Cagliari, Teramo, and L'Aquila through its infrastructure company FiberCop. The ultimate goal is to provide ultra-broadband for over 95 cities in the province of Cagliari, connecting more than 61,000 homes in 45 cities. Teramo province covers 34,000 citizens, while L'Aquila province covers 99 cities and 46,000 citizens.
TIM and FiberCop are jointly involved in the tender for 7 lots of the Italy 1 Giga Plan, totaling 10 operational areas, with a total cost of 546 million euros. Of this, 240 million euros are provided by the TIM Group, and 306 million euros come from public funding. Abruzzo expects 285 cities to achieve ultra-broadband connectivity by June 2026.

CityFibre acquires Lit Fibre, accelerating its rollout by up to 300,000 premises
The UK's gigabit broadband operator CityFibre has completed the acquisition of Lit Fiber, meaning an additional 220,000 premises will be added to its pure fiber network. CityFibre's goal is to cover 8 million premises in the UK, although it's unclear when this target will be achieved. They plan to increase their operational sites by 1.5 to 3 million through acquisitions, with Lit Fiber being one of their primary targets.
Now, with Lit Fiber under its wing, CityFibre can expand its services further, covering 20 towns in areas like Wiltshire and Gloucestershire. CityFibre aims to complete the deployment of Lit Fiber and plans to cover 300,000 premises.
