In advance of expressing my gratitude and thanks, I am also aware of and have deep compassion for those who have not been so lucky, who have suffered considerable financial, emotional and health hardships this year. It has been a year like no other in recent memory.
I am grateful to Alan Mulally who give a masterclass on leadership with their Working Together Principles, Practice and Management system. The link will be available. While I have heard this presentation many times, it never gets old, I always find a new insight, and it reminds me how far we have to go on the journey towards the workplace we aspire to. My takeaway this time, as we are in a time of pandemic fear and health risk, and of economic contraction, the answers of how to lead and how to work remain the same. Love the people you work with. Treat them equally and with respect. Put them first. Expand your frame of reference to realize that you do not hold the answers and that the people you work with, bring their own brilliance and if you can bring that out, everyone will flourish. When Frances Hesselbein would say, work is love made visible, she was describing this kind of leadership.
I am also grateful to the entire 100 Coaches community who inspire me every day (no exaggeration!) I am so fortunate to be surrounded by and in contact with individuals who are committed to making the lives of other people better. Some through one to one executive coaching, others through their thought leadership on how to make our lives and the lives of those we are responsible for better, and some by being exemplary leaders and showing us what is possible. My favorite part of this community is that we are growing and learning as the art and science of best leadership practices is always changing with our environment and the speed with which people can change their behavior. I am looking forward to continue to grow with this community and work to advance our work.
And I am grateful to Marshall. It cannot be said enough that he is the north star for this organization. It is not just his teaching and guidance but the personal choices he makes that establish the purpose and promise of 100 Coaches. He continues to inspire me to grow the organization to contribute to his deserving legacy by making it a living community that maps to his blueprint and expands his inspiration in all directions. It is easy for me to say that Marshall has made my life better in almost every way. I am inspired by the work we have collectively accomplish and look forward to where this journey will take us. Thank you Marshall!
Wednesday: Excited By Success with Ayse and Friends as we Deconstruct Racism and Reconstruct Love Wednesday 10 am ET
I mean, wow. I will be speaking with Ayse (Eye-shay) Birsel, a designer who has developed a design thinking process called Deconstruction:Reconstruction. We will be discussing how to Deconstruct Racism, Inequality, Exclusion, to Reconstruct Love. We will reconstruct our opportunities from challenges, love from pain, simplicity from complexity, power from our differences. Express what it means to love humanity to imagine our next steps for ourself and our community. Join me to reconstruct love. Ayse and friends will present for 20 minutes and then we will have a breakout session to discuss and then come back and share. It’s a podcast. It’s a workshop. It’s like Razzles for insights!
Speaking of Giving Thanks… What’s next for Pamay?
Pamay Bassey discovered the secret to learning in 365 days – and unlocked business value that will last a lifetime. First she did My 52 Weeks of worship in 2010. Then did it again in Brooklyn in 2017-2018. My 365 Day of Learning started in 2019 and ended early this year. 10 years apart! This year she is doing a giving challenge - giving to a different Historically Black College/University (HBCU) every week. It will take 2 years as there are 105 HBCUs and I am on week 22. She sets an example of the power of doing something big in regular increments. She is working on a book about my year of learning now. Please support her by reading and sharing her post on LinkedIn [Ekpedeme “Pamay” M. WILD Insights from Fiona Macaulay
Did you know that Nov. 19 is International Men’s Day? The objectives of this day are to improve gender relations, promote gender equality, and highlight male role models. So, it seems like the right time to highlight that there are benefits on both sides when men mentor women. Women get more raises, they advance faster, and they stay in the organization longer. Men get increased access to information, they build a more diverse and expansive network, and they tend to increase their interpersonal skills. Don’t get me wrong, women mentoring women, and men is critical. The fact is, women are doing a lot of mentoring, there is simply not enough women to go around. So we need to make sure men are doing their share of mentoring women too. And, as always, thank you, Marshall, for making all of this possible
