WEEK 2: OPPONENT SCHEMES
We undertook a?nationwide survey ?to understand the state of high school coaching. Our questionnaire, consisting of 15 skill and ability-related questions went out to more than 6,000 coaches. Here’s what we learned.
DID YOU KNOW?
64% of coaches surveyed reported being below excellent at recognizing opponent’s scheme and/or developing a scheme to defeat it.
ONE TAKEAWAY
Strategy
Learning to scheme as a coach first requires;
Tactics
After that, it boils down to HOW. HOW can your team accomplish those two things? Know your team. It really doesn’t matter what the other team does if you don’t know how your team can attack or defend them. Once you know your team’s strengths and weaknesses inside and out, then you can begin tactics of how to apply them to the opponent. Study your team! Do scouting reports on yourself! Have your players scout themselves and each other! Then do the same to your opponents.
