Week 2 HR A-Z

So following on the compliation Week 2 went from G - K

Over the weekend Hawaii recently made a new law in regards to noise and the increase of noise complaints due to loud laughter at work

They now have to use a low ha

G whizz, the weekend went so fast. I couldn’t cope with the heat though and hid indoors thinking of stupid stuff to share on here??

Starting the week with GDPR, garden leaves, gender pay gap and grievances

All issues we deal with as part of our retainer service.

I’ll pick on Grievances though as they are on the up now people have to work together again in offices.

From body odour, swearing ,flatulence, noise and radio stations. (Enough about my team though)

Managers have been forgetting how to manage and deal with these situations.

Working from home has caused a number of issues with people losing social skills and managers not wanting to cause offence.

I’d I schedule a free grievance and discipline masterclass at the end of the month would you like a place?

If you want more info on any of these topics just let me know.

H

I was up all night with this heat and wondered where the sun had gone;

Then it dawned on me ??Ba dum tss ??

So I was planning to talk about HR being HUMAN, Health Benefits, Homeworking or even H&S for H but the phone lines mean one thing.

Its getting hot in here so take off all your clothes.... Someone Stop Carol in accounts quick its a joke.

People think they know the law around HEAT and every man, dog, woman and penguin is calling saying staff have asked can they go home as its too hot.

The UK eclipsed the temperature in Hawaii and Los Angeles this weekend and yesterday.

Unfortunately, the idea that you can demand to be sent home from work when it reaches a certain temperature is a myth in the UK.

The HSE, under the Workplace Regulations of 1992 say employers have a responsibility to ensure that conditions are “reasonable”, but there is no stated temperature threshold.

The official guidance reads: “In offices or similar environments, the temperature in workplaces must be reasonable. There’s no law for maximum working temperature, or when it’s too hot to work.”

While there is therefore no legal pressure for bosses to send staff members home if they are too hot, the Government advises: “Employees should talk to their employer if the workplace temperature isn’t comfortable.”

THIS INCLUDES PEOPLES OWN HOMES - hang on its their home surely !!

While legally there’s not much theycan do, the HSE does issue advice as to what you can do to “improve thermal comfort in your workplace”.

Essentially, the measures boil down to common sense, and include the following guidance:

Remove clothing if you are hot (or, indeed, add more layers if you are cold)

Use a desk or pedestal fan to improve air flow

Use window blinds (if your office has them) to reduce the sun’s heat

Drink plenty of water, while avoiding fizzy drinks and caffeine

Work as much as possible away from the glare of direct sunlight

Take regular breaks

A colleague found the best thing is his feet in a bucket of cool water ill be trying anything.

What tips have you found help to cool things down.?

What do you call a fish with no Eyes. There’s no I in team but there’s a fair few in HR.

By the way it’s Fsh

The top 3 are as follows:

Induction

IR35

Interviews

I’ve mentioned a lot about ir35 previously so we focus on interviews today.

We can help with interview techniques, questions and scoring.

So many people don’t realise you can be took to a tribunal for not offering someone a job or not replying to an interviewee with feedback.

There have been numerous incidents where people have sent duplicate cvs in to a workplace. Changing a minor detail.

Male to female

Young to old

English to Muslim

The list goes on.

They then file a tribunal for discrimination and have made thousands from businesses by doing so.

The other thing which catches people out is asking wrong questions like do you plan on having kids? When do you plan on retiring?

So if you need help you know where I am just reach out.

What’s the best interview question and answer you’ve heard?
