Week 13: Memes & Culture, Phrases in Meetings, Metaverse for Magazines
Swaroop SHRM-SCP, ACC

This week I wrote an article on the topic of memes and its title is "What do Memes mean to Culture?".
I later realized that it is an absurd question to ask. Let me know your thoughts in case you happen to read the article.
On that note, I want to share a quote that I found on the internet which is a great orientation to have in today's divided world. I am not sure to whom it is attributed though. While some gave credit to Mark Twain I don't think he said it. In any case, here is the quote:
Make Memes, Not War
It is perhaps one of the shortest quotes I came across in recent times, yet I think it is a very powerful one.
Let me know in the comments what you think of it.
Topics of the week
1. Phrases we must stop using in the meetings:
Time and again we keep learning about how to be better at running meetings. I think this is an evergreen topic and never runs out of interest for every generation of professionals.
This HBR article has got some great phrases we are so used to but must be stopped. It calls for a reflection and my favourite one is to rethink the concept of giving back time to participants when the meetings end earlier than planned.
2. How to verify a truth?
When Just Bariso writes something on Emotional Intelligence I try not to miss it, as much as I can. This week there was an interesting piece from him touching on something we all know which is about the leaks that we see in the world of news.
In a world where we see full of fake news, misinformation and issues with the accuracy of data, we all must learn one thing and really be good at following it. It is this:

If you really want the truth, you have to go to the source.
From the internet/metaverse
There was a time when I used to wonder at the number of magazines available in my college library and sometimes I would skip lectures to read them.
Now, students must be reading them on mobile phones while attending a college lecture on Zoom calls, because
most of the magazines are already available in digital format, but how about magazines moving to metaverse?
To find an answer to this question, you can read this interview with Nicholas Thompson whose videos on #mostinterestingthingintech I regularly follow on LinkedIn.
Personal Update
I strongly feel that I can do a better job of retaining & sharing what I am reading / learning, hence I started these Notion pages and made them public.
I launched it on Chinese New Year day this week, not that it makes any difference, but as Rachel Botsman explains, it is just the "fresh start effect" I guess.
The notes aren't fully ready yet but as my LinkedIn banner says, we must start even before we are ready. That is the whole philosophy of #365daysofshipping too.
I will share as and when there is an update, so others too can benefit from my notes.
This marks the end of the Week 13 edition.
Until next Friday,?keep?tracing your mastery.
