Week 10 of 24: Not Showing Problem-Solving Skills

Employers are interested in how you solve problems, not just in the final design.

Let's break this task into three parts:

  1. The core is problem-solving
  2. Showcasing your solution-focused approach
  3. Highlighting your creative solutions

Each part requires a slightly different perspective, and by breaking it down, you can work on specific aspects without feeling overwhelmed or lost as to how to proceed.

Problem-Solving: The Core of Your UX Portfolio

A UX portfolio should showcase your problem-solving skills,?highlighting how you've tackled and resolved design challenges.?

For instance, if you worked on improving the user experience of a complex application, detail the specific usability issues you identified and how you addressed them. The issues might include streamlining navigation, simplifying forms, or enhancing accessibility. By focusing on problem-solving, your portfolio demonstrates your analytical skills and ability to create practical, user-centred solutions.

Tackling Challenges: Showcasing Your Solution-Focused Approach

Demonstrating a solution-focused approach in your UX portfolio involves highlighting how you've overcome specific design challenges.?

Your approach could include case studies where you've transformed user feedback into actionable design improvements or how you navigated and resolved constraints like budget or technical limitations.?

For example, if you redesigned a website to improve its conversion rate, explain how you identified the bottlenecks and the design changes you implemented to address them. A case study like that showcases your strategic thinking and commitment to achieving tangible results.

Creative Solutions: Highlighting Your Problem-Solving Prowess

Your ability to develop creative solutions is a vital part of your UX portfolio.?It's essential to show how you've thought outside the box to solve user experience issues.?

For instance, if you developed an innovative approach to increase user engagement in an app, describe the original problem, your creative process, and the impact of your solution. Demonstrate your creativity, deep understanding of user needs, and ability to meet those needs innovatively.
