Week 1 of the FDTC Launch - LinkedIn Flex

Week 1 of the FDTC Launch - LinkedIn Flex

LinkedIn flex is a real thing. People only showcase their wins, and that's difficult to relate to.

So let me showcase my loss.

About a week into the launch of my FDTC program I had another subscriber.

Within minutes, he canceled ??

I DMd him on LinkedIn asking why he canceled so quickly, and he said that he doesn't feel comfortable subscribing to something and getting charged automatically.

When I asked him, what WOULD HAVE made him feel comfortable paying?

He responded,

"it would probably take a lot of social validation, clear/consistent update schedule, and new content that’s worthwhile. but even then, I don't like the subscription model."

From a quick high of getting a new customer to a quick low of getting a cancellation, I felt compelled to share this story and the lessons I learned.

Here are 5 lessons I learned:

  1. Your product is NOT for everyone. Don't make the mistake of making a business decision because 1 person isn't into it.
  2. Even though your product isn't for everyone, get feedback, especially from the ones that haven't bought.
  3. Don't take rejection personally. It's tempting to default to, "oh crap this is a bad product" when someone doesn't buy.
  4. When launching and selling anything, it's your word against the buyer's impression. So back up your "features" with testimonials and case studies.
  5. If you have existing customers that are happy and have a large pipeline, don't fret when one doesn't go your way.
