A small but mighty WEDO delegation is on the ground this week at the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) 16th Conference of Parties in Cali, Colombia, the first of the three upcoming COPs from the Rio Conventions in the upcoming two-month period.
While in Cali, we're prioritizing the critical interconnections between biodiversity and climate change while amplifying gender and environment data. In tandem, WEDO is excited to contribute to the regionalization process of the Women & Gender Constituency for Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC), intentionally providing a space for the fierce feminists from across the region to shape their collective advocacy on the road to COP29 and eventually, COP30.?
WEDO champions a holistic, integrated and gender-responsive approach to the planetary crisis. We advocate for political alignment, avoiding policy fragmentation and ensuring that gender considerations are embedded in all environmental governance frameworks.

Mwanahamisi Singano - As Director of Policy at WEDO and co-focal point of the Women & Gender Constituency, Mwanahamisi will spearhead the WEDO delegation's policy perspective and make strides towards building and fortifying our policy through a triple throng approach focused on the upcoming COPs.?
Claudia Rubio Giraldo - As co-convener of the Gender and Environment Data Alliance, Claudia will help guide WEDO's data work at COP16. She will also support the LAC Regionalization Process and overall policy work.

Global Gender and Environment Data Conference: Advancing Gender Equality Through Strategic Data Insights?
The Global Gender and Environment Data Conference is a direct response to the Call to Action that emerged from the UNFCCC COP 28 conference on the Global Conference for Gender and Environment Data.?
At the The Power of Data session on October 20, Claudia Rubio Giraldo , Programs and Policy Associate at WEDO, highlighted how the Gender and Environment Data Alliance (GEDA) , the more than 90-member multistakeholder alliance convened by WEDO and IUCN , is applying the Call to Action, and why the Call to Action is relevant to biodiversity.
Inaugural Irene Dankelman "Young Ecofeminist Award"?
On October 22, WECF International , WEDO, IUCN NL , and Both ENDS , awarded young ecofeminists from Asia, Africa and Latin America the inaugural Irene Dankelman Young Ecofeminist award for their contribution to gender equality, nature and biodiversity conservation.
In recognition of Irene Dankelman's exceptional dedication and pioneering contributions at the nexus of environmental sustainability and feminist principles, we are honored to launch this?award.?Irene Dankelman has supported the development of feminist movements globally, including our four organizations where she was a distinguished board member and colleague. This esteemed award pays homage to Irene's enduring legacy by celebrating and uplifting the voices of young people who embody her tireless commitment to gender equality, community empowerment, and ecological integrity.?

Biodiversity, Climate Change and Gender: Interlinkages on the road to COP29
On October 24, feminists from the region joined a conversation circle to voice their concerns and dreams, highlighting the interlinkages between the CBD and the UNFCCC on the road to COP29 and in the margins of COP16.
