Wednesday Wisdom: Few will hunt
I did something crazy.
I embarked on a journey to test my limits and set myself apart from others through hard work.?I spent the last 6 weeks training to compete and put myself up against an opponent who would challenge every bit of training and endurance work that I put in. And when all was said and done, this past weekend, I left everything in the ring and came out with my glove in the air. I came out a winner… yet I wasn’t “on top”. My long awaited match, was a draw. A tie. Instead of standing first, I shared the podium with my competitor and yet, I still came out with a victory.
I do not have a video to share with you today. Instead, I am sharing my perspective on what it means to HUNT. To work hard and to defy the standard by doing more than those around you. Everyone wants to get somewhere in life, to accomplish something in their career, their relationships, their physical and health goals – but not everyone is willing to travel the path necessary in order to get there. Everyone wants to eat, but few will hunt. How many times have you questioned another person’s accomplishments, or craved the achievements of a peer? How many times have you personally criticized, or heard others criticize, someone else’s failures? We’ve all been there. It’s easy to coach from the sidelines right? Or be a “Monday morning quarterback”. But until you have gone on the hunt, taken that walk and climbed into the ring, how do you justify the competence with which to judge another person’s success and journey?
We all want to succeed in life – success looks different to each of us – but not everyone is willing to do the hard work to get there. We’re not all prepared or willing to do the hard things (you know I have to reference one of my favorites!). Getting up early is hard. Staying up late is hard. Putting in longer hours than others is hard. The view from the top of the mountain is pretty spectacular, but the journey to climb is undertaken by the minority. Everyone wants to eat, but few will hunt. And going on the hunt, is a victory itself. The proverbial, it’s the climb. The lessons learned and the growth developed as you take the uneven path to reach your chosen destination.
So here’s the challenge – Ask yourself - What do you want to feast on? What do you want to feed your soul with? And then ask yourself, are you willing to go on the hunt?
