John 2:1-11
There was a wedding at Cana in Galilee, and the mother of Jesus was there. Jesus and his disciples were also invited to the wedding. When the wine ran short, the mother of Jesus said to him, "They have no wine." And Jesus said to her, "Woman, how does your concern affect me? My hour has not yet come." His mother said to the servers, "Do whatever he tells you." Now there were six stone water jars there for Jewish ceremonial washings, each holding twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus told the them, "Fill the jars with water." So they filled them to the brim. Then he told them, "Draw some out now and take it to the headwaiter." So they took it. And when the headwaiter tasted the water that had become wine, without knowing where it came from — although the servers who had drawn the water knew —, the headwaiter called the bridegroom and said to him, "Everyone serves good wine first, and then when people have drunk freely, an inferior one; but you have kept the good wine until now." Jesus did this as the beginning of his signs at Cana in Galilee and so revealed his glory, and his disciples began to believe in him.

Weddings can be Awesome events – especially for Believers who may be well aware of the Mysteries taking place while the congregation is in the presence of the Holy Spirit before the Altar of God. The music, the incense, the love, the smiles…it’s a lot to try to take in all at once! Watching Wedding videos is a great way to truly-remember the day and to see what collectively took place. For many, Weddings can be a very difficult time. Sometimes, for the widower, Children of divorce, and others that are either struggling and/or not wanting to be celebrating the Wedding, Weddings might not be as enjoyable. Sometimes, Weddings bring conflict. As with the Wedding at Cana – which brought about great conflict for Jesus Christ. He is the Son of God, but He was also, at the time, the Son of Man. He has a Heavenly Father (God), but, again, at the time, He had an earthly Mother (Mary). Being Perfect, both through the Law and beyond the Law, He was obligated to obey both – thus, the conflict. So, while His initial response to Mary was a bit “gruff” (mentioning His Obligation to His Heavenly Father (“My hour has not yet come)), He then moved Perfectly to obeying His Mother’s wishes; turning the water into wine. He obeyed both God and Mary. And, thus began His earthly Ministry and the world has never been the same since. It’s interesting that God served the good wine (the Jews) first and then served the inferior wine (the Gentiles) second. The reality is that all of us are the Good Wine given that we all have the Holy Spirit living within us. No matter what we do in this world, the Most Important Thing that we need to do is to “wed” the Lord. We are to fall in love with Him and spend our days with Him in our Hearts – until death when we part with our earthly vessels and join Him in Spirit in Heaven (where He will give us our new Heavenly Bodies). Our Heavenly Wedding Garments will, like a Bride, be steeped in the Light – being a bold white signifying our Holiness with the Lord. So, while we wait for Him to come again, let us all say, “I do” to Jesus – the Perfect Bridegroom. Our simple “Yes” is all it takes…
