Websites
My favorite topic, yet the toughest one for me to really talk about. I've been ripped off, and not just one occasion, but multiple times purchasing a basic website to building a SAS based software. So, I totally know how it feels, and not only did I make sure that that never happens to me again, I make sure my clients, partners, and anyone who asks, never go through that again. With all the social platforms, countless funnels, landing pages, and other lead gen sites, this is probably the most important piece of your advertising admonition. So, let's get into websites.
Hey creators! My name is Ede, welcome back to my weekly get social tips Obas Media, where we build brands all across the Bay Area. So long story short, I started my first business, and it was an event coordinating company. We did a lot of corporate events and fashion shows, and we worked with nonprofits and things like that. This was in 2008, I believe. We worked with a web developer that we thought we could trust and long story short, he held onto our website, or domain actually, and never gave it to us. Another major one was when I worked with a SAS face. When I did this project, it was putting together a live streaming technology. I know live streaming is all crazy now, but this was before live streaming came out, and there were no live streaming nothing.

And so, I did not understand the channel part of it, which essentially was a website, but not just that, content was held back and information. You know, if we really don't know, they charge you the most ridiculous amount as well. Back then, I guess it was a lot more complicated to build websites. So, when I worked for, and this is how I understood it, I actually worked with one of the best web development and SEO company in Alameda. This was when I really got into, I guess, technology. So, well, I mean like when I really dove into it, cause I spent after losing everything in this one particular project, I dove into software and technology for two years, and I made sure that was not going to happen again. So, let's get into what it takes to build a website.
Now, my two favorites are there's WordPress, which if you are going to build something with a lot more robust, and you can customize a lot more, I would go with WordPress. For regular sites that you can blog on, you can have pretty much all the modern functionalities that you would need for your website, I use GoCentral. It’s actually through GoDaddy, where they have their own builder, pretty much. It’s, I think, the most cost-effective ways to build your website that is really clean, and like I mentioned, they have functionalities that allow you to integrate with softwares like zoom for your appointments. They also have chat features. You can also create marketing campaigns, and they track all of your social metrics like Google, Facebook, Instagram, and things like that. So, we usually recommend that to our clients.
It's also great, because it's packaged with SSL certificate that you need to have a safe site for your viewers. I don't know if you've noticed, there are sites that you go to and it gives you warnings that the site is not secure, and that's because they don't have an SSL certificate. Then also, hosting. So with the builder, the functionalities, the hosting, and the SSL certificate, you’re probably looking at about $120-$150 a year to manage and maintain this website. So, it's also like the most cost-effective ways to have a really modern functional websites. It also tracks your viewers for you, like on the dashboard. Let's say real estate. Now, you can use GoCentral to build your real estate site, but if you want a more custom and robust application for all the functionalities that you're going to do with the site.
So, it all depends on what you're going to do. That's kind of where we gear, you know, that's kind of where we come in, and we help you determine what kind of website you really need. For a real estate agent, let's say, you do need a lot more functionality, and there are a lot more things that you probably want to do on your website, like having a login for your consumers to come in and save properties, maybe request, you know, a showing and things like that. That's definitely going to take a WordPress website for you to really run that well. Then, you've got integrations with like IDX, which you can also do with GoCentral by the way,
but but there's templates that give you so much more information for each of these properties through an IDX. You really want to take advantage of that.
We have an example for you here. It's PeteFlores.net. So, that's kind of where my take is on like websites, which website you're going to use. I'm going to tell you that there is a builder for pretty much, you know, all the website builders that you see out there. They have their own builders, but I haven't seen anything that comes close to GoCentral. So, definitely check that out if you haven't already, and I have links down below for you as well. So, for WordPress though, it's a little different, because you still have to host the site. So, if you have the domain and you have the WordPress site, you still need to pay for hosting it. You know, it's kind of like having a phone number, right? You gotta pay for that number and for that number to be active.
So, it's kind of like that for websites. There has to be a hosting platform, and like I mentioned, GoCentral has that all rolled into one. With WordPress, it’s a little different. You have to actually get your hosting, and it's separate. Now, there are packages on GoDaddy, where you can get the WordPress builder, I believe, and the hosting and the SSL all rolled into one, or you can also get a specific hosting platform if you'd have somebody else building your WordPress site, which that's kind of how we do it. On our end, I have a dedicated web developer that builds complicated, more robust websites. So, that's where we go with in that direction. We build custom built websites, so hard coded websites, and we were also, you know, the number one SEO company in the Bay Area.
So yeah, that's pretty much, you know, what it takes to build a website, the costs associated with it. It does cost a little bit more, like a ton more actually, for a WordPress site, because you really have to know someone or you really have to understand how to code when you build a WordPress site. I also wanted to point out that you can literally build anything now a days for like a fraction of the costs. Anything you want, any type of system platform, anything you want. So, I just wanted to share that with you, because you know, if you're looking to build a CRM, your own CRM, or your own project management platform, your own funnel system, your own lead generation platform, pretty much anything, and it's like a fraction of what it normally used to cost, and that's through a WordPress site.
Pretty much landing pages are a web. You know, everyone talks about like a landing page and funnels as if it's different from like a website, and it's not. It’s actually a page on your website that you build multiple pages, and because the clicks lead to another page. So, this has to be built on a domain, through a domain, with a hosting platform, and only do that when you have all those things covered. So, you'll see, like for instance, Zillow. They built multiple pages for every agent that, you know, signs up for Zillow and things like that. Facebook, it's kind of the same thing. So, somebody’s going in there and automatically building their own profile page, right? Yeah, so that's my take on websites. There's so much you can do with it, and we'll go even deeper into that as I get into how to build through GoCentral and WordPress. We’re going to cover all of that this week, and if you have a question, or if you need consulting, or coaching through your web development project, just let me know. My link is down below. I'm available for one-on-one consultations, but also group meetings. So, my name is Ede. I'm the creative director for Obas Media, and we build brands all across the Bay Area. Thanks, again.
