Addressing common misconceptions about internal mobility
The webinar began by addressing three key misconceptions often hindering effective internal mobility practices. First, internal mobility should focus on an individual's potential and interests, not just their current skills and role. This perspective limits the potential of employees who may possess passions and capabilities beyond their existing roles.
Second, internal mobility doesn’t need to be a permanent transition; temporary movements across departments allow employees to explore interests and develop new skills without pressure. Instead, Nick and Jakub advocated for temporary movements across departments, enabling employees to explore their interests and develop new skills without the pressure of permanent changes.
Third, rather than a rigid structure, the future of work is heading towards a skills-based organization where tasks are assigned based on individual skills, not predefined job titles. This flexible approach encourages a dynamic workforce aligned with their unique capabilities and passions.
Overcoming challenges in internal mobility
Nick and Jakub also discussed challenges organizations face with internal mobility programs. A major hurdle is resistance to change. Effective change management and strong leadership are crucial for employee and manager engagement. Managers play a pivotal role supporting team members' aspirations and facilitating movements. With buy-in, internal mobility initiatives can avoid immense obstacles.?
Integrating data from various tools to support internal mobility is another challenge. Organizations must carefully plan the incorporation of existing data, which requires operational adjustments and understanding what information needs sharing across platforms.?
The pair agreed that managerial support is critical. Managers must allow team members to explore new opportunities, fostering a culture valuing internal mobility as beneficial for the organization, not just a departmental loss. This shift empowers employees to pursue their career goals.

Leveraging AI for internal mobility programs
The webinar also explored how AI can significantly enhance internal mobility programs through skill mapping. This process starts by identifying employees' skills and matching them with the needs of different departments.?
Skills mapping facilitates more effective internal mobility, ensuring that employees are placed in roles where they can thrive and contribute the most. Additionally, technology can track both the skills and experience of employees, helping identify the best fit for new roles based on their background and expertise.?
AI also optimizes the movement of employees within organizations. By analyzing various factors, such as skill sets, career aspirations, and departmental needs, AI can recommend optimal internal mobility paths that maximize both employee satisfaction and organizational efficiency. This technology-driven approach allows for more strategic and data-informed decision-making, reducing the reliance on subjective human judgment.
