WebexKubedCon 2022

We have dreamt about the Cloud Native Transformation of the Webex SaaS platform layer leveraging best of CNCF technologies including Kubernetes towards a unified state-of-the-art platform. That dream is now a reality.

We are heavily utilizing and extending platform automation capabilities in and around the Kubernetes ecosystem to lay a strong foundation. One where all Webex services can be realized securely wherever the business needs them with high reliability to bring Webex innovations to customers fast.

Despite operating at a scale of ~200 k8s clusters, the platform (internally known as "WebexKubed") was in an early adopter phase till September 2022 when we reached our general availability(GA) milestone. It’s now time to start the transformation journey of Webex SaaS backend in a meaningful way for the years to come.

Technology is the easy part and we mostly have it in the bag with an awesome team behind WebexKubed to continuously evolve it.

However, for this transformation to be truly successful its capabilities, evolution and operability need to be amplified by the wider Webex/Cisco engineering community. We kickstarted this community effort off with an internal "WebexKubedCon" hybrid event spread over three regions attended by ~700 interested folks.?

It’s been several busy weeks nailing the GA milestone and organizing an event around it — a massive kudos ?? to the entire team for pulling off a successful event.
