Web3 to the Rescue... Can the Blockchain Help with Future 'Lower- skilled' Labor?

I came across this article from a few years back- Players for Hire: Games and the Future of Low-Skill Work- it predicted a scenario within a few years (probably now) that paying the ‘general population’ by the thousands to play video games would become a standard revenue model in the video game industry.?It’s a lengthy article- but if you can stick with it, there is some logic from an academic point of view.
For those who need a little incentive:
- It takes the concept that the players who pay in the form of micro-transactions (who represent the lion’s share of revenue to publishers) do so- because they want to “fly First Class†from a game play/community experience...That means in theory, it should be possible to artificially establish a “Coach Classâ€
- User acquisition costs will take on a new and interesting dimension as more people create an artificially large gaming population that makes First Class more appealing to pay to play consumers.
- Free-to-play when first rolled out; was thought of as "crazy" initially
- ‘Unskilled Laborers’ are necessary and required (by the thousands) to establish this hypothetical ecosystem.
One of the hurdles this article faces is how all these people logistically, would need to get paid- but that was almost 6 years ago- a long time from a tech point of view. Web3 and blockchain technology have suddenly created a new dynamic that changes a few things.
Time will tell- but perhaps it's worth dusting off this conversation.
