Web2Learn participates in European hackathon for humanitarian aid

Web2Learn is happy to join forces with open innovation teams around Europe participating to the hackathon EUSpace4Ukraine.

From June 29 to July 1 the European Union Agency for the Space Programme (EUSPA) organises a hackathon for teams wishing to use Earth Observations and satellite imagery for a social purpose:?provide solutions to enhance humanitarian support to those fleeing the war in Ukraine.

The theme that Web2Learn has submitted (and which has been selected by the organisers) to run in the competition is “Cultural heritage under threat”

More information about the EUSPA hackathon can be found here

This hackathon Challenge is a result of a matchmaking event?that EUSPA organised to match Earth observation Innovators with NGOs/Helpers . The event took place on May 17, 2022. Web2Learn figures here among the NGOs/Helpers to join the hackathon. A snapshot can be found here. The June webinar we organised on "Cultural Heritage Threats and the Role of Citizen Engagement Inside and Outside Universities" gives a very good overview of several European and Ukrainian initiatives about Ukrainian cultural heritage preservation.

This hackathon challenge is part of the EU-funded project HEIDI (Digital Actions at HEIs as a catalyst for social change in the COVID-19 crisis’) in which Web2Learn is one of key partners.

Thank you very much Bente and Jovanka for teaming up with us for this very inspiring new venture! Big thanks to Ultrahack team for arranging this hackathon with EUSPA.

This is super exciting - an example of the very many societal areas Earth observations play and can play an important role. I particularly like the Galileo/Copernicus combination and of course one of my old babies, in-situ data.
