Meta has announced that Roblox will be available on its Quest virtual reality (VR) headsets, starting with an open beta in the coming weeks. The Quest version of Roblox will be compatible with Quest 2, Quest Pro, and the upcoming Quest 3. Meta explains that Roblox experiences utilising default player scripts will automatically support VR devices, ensuring a smooth transition to VR without modifications. With over 15 million active experiences on the platform, there will be plenty of content to explore. China’s CAC introduces strict regulations against generative ai

Chinese regulators have finalised rules to govern generative artificial intelligence (AI) in an effort to strengthen oversight of the rapidly growing technology. The new regulations, which will take effect on August 15, were developed by the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC) in collaboration with other regulatory bodies. Generative AI involves AI systems generating content such as text or images, with OpenAI's ChatGPT being a prominent example. Concerns have been raised by global regulators regarding the risks associated with the technology as various rival services have emerged. Chinese tech giants have also entered this space but have been cautious due to the tight control exerted by Chinese regulators over the internet. The CAC's rules require generative AI services available to the public to obtain a licence, take measures against "illegal" content, conduct security assessments, ensure user information security, and adhere to the "core values of socialism." The regulations aim to promote innovation and support infrastructure development in the generative AI field.

BMW Motorrad has introduced MetaRide, a virtual reality platform in the Metaverse that allows users to experience the company's new motorcycles. The platform debuted with the announcement of the BMW CE 02 electric scooter, which BMW describes as an "eParkourer" rather than an e-motorcycle or e-scooter. MetaRide offers users the opportunity to view motorcycles in 3D and take them for a virtual test ride. Accessible through the Spatial Metaverse platform, MetaRide also offers additional activities such as playing basketball, collecting tokens, and customising avatars.. While MetaRide does offer excitement and increased interest in BMW, they are aware of the Metaverse limitations in that the experience itself cannot capture the essence of riding a motorcycle, including the physical sensations of speed, wind, and engine vibrations/ actively encouraging users to complete the consumer journey by booking a real test drive.?

VR Fitness: Expanding the Customer Base Beyond Gaming

Big tech companies, such as Meta (formerly Facebook), are increasingly targeting women and expanding the customer base for virtual reality (VR) by promoting non-gaming use cases like fitness, work, and entertainment. VR exercise apps, in particular, have attracted a new audience, including women over 35, who see VR headsets as fitness equipment rather than gaming consoles. Fitness apps in VR provide immersive workout experiences, allowing users to engage in activities like kickboxing or cycling in virtual environments. The industry believes that VR's immersive quality is more motivating for exercise compared to traditional screens.? Companies like Apple and Meta have recognized the potential of VR fitness and have made moves to capture the market. The global wearable fitness tracker market size was valued at USD 45 billion in 2021. It is projected to reach USD 192 billion by 2030. Apple plans to integrate its fitness tracking app, Apple Fitness+, into its mixed-reality headset Vision Pro, while Meta acquired VR fitness app Supernatural's studio. While challenges like comfort and dizziness remain, enthusiasts believe that Apple's device may demonstrate the value of mixed-reality headsets, potentially expanding the VR market further.
