In the previous decade technology is changing rapidly. This increase in the usage of internet has immensely changed how people use, approach and think about computers. A greater part of this increase in the usage of internet is in the form of increase in World Wide Web. World Wide Web and internet are usually considered same thing but are completely different. This huge shift towards the use of internet and World Wide Web is also due to popularity and availability of portable devices like smart phones and other handheld mobile devices that have made the accessibility and usage of internet possible virtually everywhere. This huge shift towards web technologies has also impacted traditional desktop operating systems greatly. Due to increase in the use of web, most of the applications are being made for web now days. It seems that in the near future web-based operating systems will totally replace traditional desktop operating systems. If not then at least these web based operating systems will compete with desktop operating systems and both will fight for their existence. To consolidate the argument, case studies of Windows 8, Windowa Azure, iClode, Glide Os, Chrome OS, MeghaOS, WebOS, HP Palm OS, Goog,le's Android OS and Apple's Mac have been added.
