Web developer? Come teach with us!
Today, we are officially kicking off our next hiring phase for new instructors to join CodePath 2023 Summer Immersives. Specifically, we are seeking experienced software engineers who are passionate about eliminating inequities in tech education, diversifying the field, and providing underrepresented students with a path toward economic mobility and generational wealth.?
Our target population is Black, Latino/a, Indigenous, and low-income Computer Science students. Although they are majoring in CS, most of them will not learn modern full-stack web development, will never meet an engineer working in industry, and will not have an internship experience before they graduate. Many students will leave the major or the industry before ever experiencing the creative and interesting challenges of real-world engineering. It’s no surprise that 80% will drop out, and for those who graduate, many will never work as software engineers.
In our Summer Immersive program, we address these issues head on. We embed underrepresented freshmen or sophomore CS students in a partner company like Salesforce or Meta for 10 weeks. We train them in full-stack web development, and then coach them to build meaningful projects in teams, with the guidance of an engineering mentor. Meanwhile, students get to walk the halls of the company, ask engineers what they’re working on, observe meetings, and really understand what it means to work in a tech company.
For these students, this summer experience is a pivotal moment. Many find a renewed inspiration to continue their journey in tech, and the practical skills they learn ensure they’ll be able to secure an internship before they graduate, which is a critical milestone.

Most of our past instructors are experienced software engineers who were able to take a summer sabbatical to help run the program. We provide them with instructor training and support throughout the summer. Past instructors have been surprised by how energizing and inspiring the teaching experience was, and the meaningful relationships they were able to form with students.
The current volatility in our industry - particularly the contraction of early-stage recruitment - combined with increased economic barriers for many of the students we serve, poses a serious risk of stalling or even reversing much of the progress achieved in recent years. We cannot let this happen. It is important now, more than ever, to continue investing in the inclusive and diverse talent which will form the next generation of engineers.
If our approach and mission resonates with you, please apply through CodePath’s hiring portal here. Together, let’s create the best learning and growth opportunities for our next generation of engineers.
