Web-based geotechnical program stats report for year 2016

Web-based geotechnical program stats report for year 2016

Traditionally at the end of each year I publish the statistical report of the usage of my free web based programs. To some of you that may have not heard of these free online programs, have to say that at the beginning of the 2015 I decided to transfer most of my personal codes into web based programs and was hoping that other researchers/students may find them useful. Ever since I have launched six free web-based and standalone programs for geotechnical engineers as listed below:

ORMAS: Online Rock Mass Strength

OTSA: Online Tunnel Support Analysis

ORWA: Online Rock Wedge Analysis

GOOPO: Google Topography Query

DXF2UDEC: Online Program to Import UDEC Geometry from DXF

F2F: Free Software to Create 3D Mesh for FLAC3D

With the New Year right around the corner, I decided to share some of the usage stats of current year with you. Following is the summary of the usage stats provided by Google Analytics for year 2016.

  • Overall all programs have been used in over 19000+ times worldwide assisting students, researchers and engineers. Figure 1 shows the location based demographic of the users who used these free programs.

Figure 1: Worldwide stats showing number of users based on cities/countries (provided by Google Analytics).

  •  27% of users were from America, 31% from Europe, 21% from Asia, 14% from Oceana and 3% from Africa as shown in Table 2b and Figure 3a.

Figure 2: Users stats based on Continent (provided by Google Analytics).

  •  33% used OTSA, 40% ORMAS, 12% ORWA, 10% GOOPO, 4% DXF2UDEC and 2% F2F as show in Table 2c and Figure 3c.

For me this number of users is very promising and is going to be great motivation for my future works.

Have a great New Year and looking forward to hearing your feedback and comments.

Excellent concept, There should be a website where we can all enrich the empirical models with our data Best Regards
