Weave West Virginia Shares Tools to Support People Experiencing Substance Use and Domestic Violence

In partnership with DoHS’s Bureau for Behavioral Health, Weave West Virginia is holding a virtual training series on domestic violence, substance use, and substance use coercion with a special focus on better serving pregnant and postpartum survivors, and their families. The six sessions focus on supporting survivors navigating recovery support and substance use treatment services.?

The fourth webinar, held on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, focused evidence-based integrated treatment approaches for women experiencing partner violence, trauma, and substance use with two techniques that can aid in treatment for women: seeking safety and helping women recover. Both have been tested with women across many different ages, ethnic backgrounds, and races and have been found to be effective.?

Seeking safety focuses on the present and future. The goal for seeking safety is to address and reduce symptoms of trauma. It focuses on growing safety among relationships, behavior, emotions, and thinking. The goals for helping women recover are to stabilize recovery, increase understanding of trauma, and increase self-efficacy.?

The sixth and final training of this series will be held from noon to 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, on making evidence-based practices more effective for survivors experiencing substance use coercion. Click here to register and learn more.
